Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Environmental Planner/Deputy Project Manager to join our Environmental Planning & Permitting Group. The Environmental Planner/Deputy Project Manager will provide technical and project management support primarily for Federal projects, but may also support a broad range of multidisciplinary projects, including facility and community plans, military installation plans, special planning studies, permitting, and state environmental compliance processes. This position is based in our Honolulu, HI office. Hybrid work schedule is an option.

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Participate in preparation of Hawaii Environmental Policy Act (HEPA) (Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 343) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents, including writing technical sections (e.g., biological resources, land use, physical, social and/or economic issues) and/or coordinating document preparation across a multidisciplinary team.

  • Work independently and demonstrate competence in the area of environmental permitting, planning and compliance as well as preparation of technical reports and regulatory documents (Federal, State, local).

  • Interpret and apply applicable government codes, ordinances and regulations.

  • Support project managers with project management and technical responsibilities and interact with teams of staff, subconsultants, and clients.

  • Effectively multi-task to accommodate working on various simultaneous and diverse projects, and follow through to completion all assigned and delegated tasks.

  • Support marketing and business development efforts in pursuit of new projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field (including but not limited to Environmental Planning, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Science) plus 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6 years and/or Master’s Degree in related field

  • Experience with state and local agencies in Hawaii.

  • Knowledge of Native Hawaiian cultural traditions and values.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

  • Prior consulting experience.

  • Experience working on Federal contracts.

  • Familiarity with HEPA and other Hawaii planning laws and policies, NEPA, federal regulatory and compliance guidelines.

  • Familiarity with issues related to environmental planning, conservation planning, cultural and/or natural resources planning.

  • Proficiency with ArcGIS, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Project, and/or Adobe applications.

  • Ability to create and maintain tracking spreadsheets and documents.

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, identifying what needs to be accomplished and regularly completing tasks.
