AECOM Sr. Mechanical Engineer in Hill Air Force Base, Utah
Business Line Government
Position Title Sr. Mechanical Engineer
United States of America - Utah
Hill Air Force Base
AECOM is actively seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer to provide support to Fighters & Bombers Directorate within the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) at Hill AFB, Utah.
Provides Structural 3-D Computer-Aided Design (CAD)/Modeling Engineering Support
Applies a thorough knowledge of 3-D Modeling processes and specifications, and an in-depth understanding of the use of the current version plus the last three versions of Siemens NX modeling software as well as Siemens Team Center. This will be necessary to establish and maintain consistency of solid model product design, tolerances, component management processes, and use. Creates and/or modifies solid models to A-10 specifications.
Supports the A-10 SPO by researching and resolving technical issues related to the 3-D CAD modeling of aircraft structural parts, assemblies and installations.
Maintains detailed knowledge of aircraft 3-D CAD modeling practices and the A-10 SPO CAD modeling software to provide direction to the A-10 SPO, A-10 Contractors, the A-10 Depot, A-10 Commodities Support, and Defense Logistics Agency on proper modeling and use of A-10 Aircraft structural 3-D CAD models of components and assemblies.
Directs A-10 3-D CAD modeling efforts to ensure that models created or procured are modeled correctly and are useable by the A-10 SPO for long-term sustainment. Validates all CAD models that will be used for engineering definition of A-10 parts or assemblies against A-10 CAD modeling specification and standard NX modeling practices.
Creates, validates and maintains "Master" A-10 Loft Surfaces that are critical for proper placement of all major aircraft structural components and assemblies. Creates and validates derived surfaces to be used to support parts production.
Creates, validates, and maintains "Master" A-10 interchangeable interfaces data in the 3- D dataset that was previously defined by "control media per MIL-I-8500" in legacy 2-D environment.
Maintains the A-10 3-D Model Based Definition (MBD) practices. Research latest proposed changes to American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Y14.41, "Digital Product Definition Data Practices" to ensure A-10 model only practices are consistent with future practices.
Creates, validates, and maintains 3-D parts library of structural hardware used to model the A-10. Update model library when new components are used.
Creates 3-D models of aircraft parts and assemblies to support integration of solid models into existing A-10 engineering data packages.
Develops 3-D "Build-to-Packages" engineering data packages for MBD from Enhanced Wing Assembly (EWA) 3-D models and PLM databases to support spare parts procurement.
Develops proper 3-D CAD assembly linking relationship methods between detail parts and assemblies for proper assembly management. Change methods and update models in A-10 database if methods or software changes.
Ensures that the A-10 aircraft subsystem 3-D models are accounted for in the structural installations and de-conflicted correctly.
Resolves identified 3-D CAD technical issues with software vendors, A-10 contractors, or the A-10 CAD-using communities to ensure A-10 CAD models are useable for their intended purpose.
Coordinates with A-10 CM to ensure CAD models are maintained and controlled in the A- 10 PLM database.
Creates and implements a data update plan consistent with SAE ARP 9034, "A Process Standard for the Storage, Retrieval and Use of Three-Dimensional Type Design Data”.
Minimum of 15 years of experience and an accredited (such as ABET) Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a minimum of 10 years' of dedicated solid modeling experience and a MA/MS degree.
Active SECRET clearance
Air Force weapon system (preferably A-10) working knowledge and experience
Knowledge of NX CAD software tools
