AECOM Community Engagement & Communication Specialist in Hamilton, Ontario

AECOM is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Community Engagement and Communication Specialist to join our team of community engagement, communication, graphic design, facilitation and web design specialists. This is a permanent full-time position. The preferred candidate should have experience in project coordination and administration, especially for projects related to environmental sciences and socio- economic disciplines. This position will report to the Impact Assessment and Permitting Lead and it can based in Markham, Guelph, Montreal or Hamilton. This position is expected to begin in November 2020.

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Preparing communication collateral: display boards, postcards, factsheets, notices and discussion guides;
Preparing and implement communication, engagement, and outreach strategies to promote projects;
Supporting the development of digital media and website development activities, including writing content for social media and websites;
Planning and execute in-person and virtual meetings;
Collecting and enter data related to online engagement and surveys;
Collaing and manage community engagement reporting; and,
Miscellaneous assignments on an as-needed basis.
BA/BS + None or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Must possess a valid class G driver’s license and vehicle
Technical or Masters degree program. Preferred fields are public relations, community engagement, communication, or environmental planning
At least three years experience in strategic community engagement and communication
At least three years professional writing experience including: plain language, AODA, web-content, internal and external communications
Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem solving and time management skills
Good interpersonal communication skills; this role requires continuous interaction with team leaders, client management and the public
Strong knowledge of project management concepts and processes
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and remotely if required
Ability to express ideas logically, clearly and concisely
Ability to function effectively as part of a team
Experience with online and virtual engagement including social media
Experience with government relations, media relations, public relations, stakeholder analysis and facilitation are an asset
Experience with Indigenous community engagement and socio-economic studies is an asset
Experience with Adobe Suite, WordPress, Survey Monkey, Engagement HQ, Social Pinpoint, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, WebEx is an asset
IAP2, CPRS, IABC, IAF membership or certification is an asset
