AECOM Design Manager - Transportation in Hamilton, New Zealand

Job Summary

The Design Manager - Transportation contributes and further develops, professional and technical skills to the highest level on all projects they contribute to or undertake. They also support the development and training of leading-edge technical skills and understand how to practically apply them in ways that add value to AECOM, its projects and clients.

As a key member of the multi-discipline transport team, you will provide leadership and technical support to a team of transportation engineers, designers and drafters to deliver projects on time, to budget and of high quality. The successful candidate will also be responsible for development of effective client relationships to deliver growth of the team through repeat business and identification and establishment of new clients.

This role will look after project set-up, project delivery, technical quality and resource allocation to lead an engaged and motivated technical project team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer to grow their experience, working as part of a high performing, close-knit regional Waikato Transportation team, with contact and support from other regions and from global technical specialists. You will guide and mentor junior engineers, contributing to the growth of our talent pipeline.

It is responsible for the delivery of infrastructure designs and CAD drawings, as well as the management of project related resources, budgets and timelines and enhancing client and working relationships related to these responsibilities. This role may assist with preparing proposals and presentations to clients to win additional work.

Minimum Requirements

  • 10 years relevant professional experience on Transportation Infrastructure projects

  • Highly organized and self motivated Design Engineer

  • Leadership ability or the desire to become a leader

  • Fundamental understanding of Geometric design, including detailed understanding of relevant design standards (Austroads and NZTA).

  • Able to use all Microsoft Office packages

  • Knowledge of the market for consulting service

  • Eligible for membership to the Engineering New Zealand

  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent overseas professional recognition (or working towards) is a benefit

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Diploma in a relevant technical qualification
