Our Environment team is looking to grow their Planning team as demand for planning expertise across the Waikato continues to grow. We are looking for passionate team players, who care about the sustainable development of our natural and built environment and want to share in our client’s successes while delivering on interesting projects. A Principal Planner in our business would be someone who has a keen interest in leading client relationships, delivering projects and at times being part of a multidisciplinary project team delivering pieces of large projects.

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Planning and Environment team and help in the delivery of a number of complex multi-disciplinary projects. Our team comprises a range of professionals including environmental scientists and engineers, resource management and urban planners, sustainability specialists, and ecologists who are all passionate about making a positive impact on our local communities and natural environment for the present and into the future.


As a Principal Planner in our business, you will play a key role in developing and enhancing client relationships and winning work.

The role will involve:

  • Preparation, management of applications requiring statutory approval (i.e resource consents, plan change requests, notices of requirement, etc).

  • Mentoring and career development for team members

  • Represent clients and/or provide expert evidence at statutory hearings

  • Identify and develop new business development initiatives

Minimum Requirements

  • 10-15+ years’ experience working on New Zealand Planning project

  • A Resource Management or NZ Planning qualification

  • NZPI membership

  • Demonstrate a wide range of technical experience including infrastructure planning, statutory policy and land-use planning

  • Confident in preparing and presenting evidence at Council and/or Environment Court

  • Previous experience in providing support and mentorship to team members
