The Commercial & Contracts Manager develops and supervises a team of commercial and contracts discipline staff and is responsible for developing and implementing procurement and contract management strategies, systems and procedures for internal and external clients.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Commercial & Contracts Manager (CCM) is responsible for:
Developing and implementing procurement and contract management strategies, systems, procedures and guidelines for internal and external clients
Ensuring that commercial and contract management staff provide professional reports to senior management throughout the project lifecycle
Managing the process of preparing project agreements/contracts/sub contracts
Confirming that appropriate internal and external contract management processes and procedures are in place and are effective.
Managing the commercial and contract management staff including hiring, developing, mentoring, recommending appropriate training, retention and succession planning.
Overseeing the administration of consultancy, supply and construction contracts throughout the design, tender, execution and closeout stages of contracts.
Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial/contract administration environment
Minimum 5 years of experience in tender document preparation and tendering processes for private companies
Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership position overseeing commercial/contracts personnel on major projects or programmes
Minimum 3 years of experience on major infrastructure programme during construction phase
Minimum 12 years of experience in civil infrastructure industry
Minimum 5 years of experience in the employ of an engineering consulting firm
Experience working in the employ of a major international construction contractor is an advantage
Specific skills required:
Resolution of disagreements through negotiation
Commercial letter writing
Particular conditions writing
Progress report writing
Commercial risk assessment and mitigation
The CCM must be able to demonstrate a high level of competency in the administration of the following:
FIDIC White Book
FIDIC Yellow Book
FIDIC Red Book
Team leader / decision maker – ability to identify skill gaps in team members and implement appropriate development
Focused on client delivery – attention to detail and quality with a capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines
Empathy towards staff and colleagues – collaborative management style
Communication of complex matters in simple terms
Personable – ability to develop collegial relationships with Client team
Minimum BTech in a related field, i.e. Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Business, Finance, Accounting.
Member of professional organisation.
