Job Summary

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Deputy Project Manager - Transportation for immediate employment in the Glen Allen, VA office. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects.

The candidate will need to be creative, self-motivated, resourceful and able to successfully execute a wide range of tasks in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing priorities. The appropriately qualified candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of leadership capabilities within a real-time operations environment. (A flexible schedule is needed for events and project coordination)

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • As directed, communicates with client managers, operations/project managers, and shift supervisors to provide status updates, and ascertain operational needs on the regional and statewide level.

  • Supports the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).

  • Oversees the performance reporting, special statistical analysis and facilitates the internal audit program, working along with the project analysts.

  • Attends internal and external meetings to represent AECOM, VDOT and the Statewide and Regional program interests.

  • Oversees the development, revision, and execution of the project safe work plan in conjunction with AECOM SH&E staff.

  • Assists in monitoring project overhead costs associated with AECOM Technical and Field services support staff, uniform procurement, Vehicle leasing, facility rentals (for SSP program), and overtime expenditures.

  • Actively reviews operational activities for accuracy and appropriateness, providing guidance and feedback to staff as needed.

  • Mentors current leadership staff, both Statewide and Regional, on operational procedures and policies.

  • Liaison with sub-contractor project management regarding contract term, invoicing, staff quality, and overall project participation.

  • Assist in the development and facilitation of designated initial and recurrent training topics associated with the control room and/or SSP workgroups.

  • Assists the operations manager with monitoring contract expenditures and ensures the established budget is not exceeded.

  • Assumes operations leadership role when the project manager is not available.

  • Provides rotational Night/Weekend on-call support.

  • Contributes to accurate and timely after-action scenarios involving AECOM regional operations, when and where needed.

  • Assists with special event planning and setup.

  • Works on special assignments, tasks, reports, and presentations.

  • Effectively supports the recruitment, selection and onboarding process for the project and regional AECOM leadership.

  • Advises and assists with TOC Services outreach within the community and client stakeholder networks.

  • Assists in the research and development of presentations, technical memos and studies

Minimum Requirements

  • 5+ years of traffic operations experience in a management role

  • Project coordination experience

  • Microsoft Excel / PowerPoint / Word (intermediate to advanced)

  • Control room experience and/or Safety Service Patrol experience

  • Incident management (Incident Command System) protocols

  • Working knowledge of the municipality and area traffic management organizations, including state, metro and local emergency services (or similar experience from another state)

  • Valid Driver's License in good standing

  • Ability to communicate clearly, organize correspondence, convey urgency and document decisions made to project management​

  • Ability to efficiently and effectively speak, read and write on operational topics in the English language

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Business Administration, Information Technology or Engineering or other related fields

  • Microsoft Project / Microsoft SharePoint

  • Experience with data manipulation, management, and processing

  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of self-motivation and resourcefulness

  • Demonstrated ability to develop operational reports, documents, client communication, and business-related memoranda

  • Demonstrated ability to adhere to a variety of project-specific operational policies and protocols

Demonstrated ability to professionally communicate with stakeholders regarding operational concerns on roadways in a layperson manner
