Job Summary

Our Award-winning Building Services team are seeking a Regional Director to lead and develop the Scotland MEP team. The candidate can be electrical or mechanical design experienced with a proven record in leading successful teams and the design and management of major MEP projects.

The candidate should have an extensive knowledge of all aspects of building services with excellent presentation, & communication skills, and an in-depth technical knowledge of building services design and construction. The team currently works across all sectors including Health, Leisure, Defence, Commercial, Industrial etc. The Scotland MEP team forms part of the AECOM UK&I MEP team. The Scotland MEP team is currently located in Edinburgh and Glasgow and operates a ‘Freedom to Grow’ operating model where staff can manage their location to balance work and life commitments.

The Role:

The Regional Director will be responsible for leading and growing the Scotland MEP team, leading existing and major projects and developing future relationships with new and existing clients. This will involve winning work, client care, recruitment, mentoring and leading electrical and mechanical engineers to prepare concept, scheme and detailed engineering designs. The successful candidate will have proven technical design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with who is enthusiastic, self motivated, and looking to advance their career.

Duties of the role will include, but not be limited to;

  • Executes new and creative solutions that supports continuous improvement and advances internal/external client's objectives.

  • Identify and develop long term Client relationships.

  • Aligns resources to critical business needs and delegates where appropriate, escalates issues as necessary to senior leadership to impact results.

  • Positively embraces change and acts as a role model for others.

  • Represent AECOM where necessary at Client, Design Team and Project meetings

  • Attend tender / client interviews where necessary.

  • Interfacing with other disciplines (external and internal AECOM), Clients and Contractors.

  • Lead the Scotland MEP team in all project, people and financial matters including project financial performance, team assets, resourcing, recruitment, training/ developing, deliverables, invoicing etc. including:

  • Work winning, securing opportunities, supporting and/or preparing proposals, presentations.

  • Preparing and implementing design guidance.

  • Mentoring and developing staff.

  • Project Manage and act as Project Director on major projects

  • Assessing staff requirements at each work stage, and be able to manage single disciplinary and multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants to provide a fully coordinated design.

  • Ensure the Design Team is kept fully informed of all client, scope of services and other information necessary for the duration of the project.

  • Oversee the control of all production aspects of the projects in the team.

  • Implement and oversee company quality protocol ensuring all deliverable, design information and calculations etc. are prepared and signed off in accordance with the requirements of the AECOM internal quality procedures, relevant Standards and Codes of Practice.

  • Understand and implement AECOM’s Safety Health and Environment Policy.

Minimum Requirements

  • A strong technical understanding of electrical, mechanical, building services engineering

  • The ability to work accurately, independently and efficiently, and to take ownership of the Scotland MEP team and projects.

  • Effective communication skills and be a team player.

  • Significant track record of leading design teams on major projects.

  • Client facing experience re work winning, client care, developing deliverables, resolution etc.

  • Experience in project and client management within a defined fee budget and program, including managing team resources and interfacing with other disciplines.

  • Mentoring and support skills for all mechanical and electrical team members. Coaching all grades as appropriate to maintain and develop a dynamic, progressive, efficient MEP team capable of undertaking current and major projects.

  • Experience in identifying and winning new work and building client relationships.

  • Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations.

Preferred Qualifications

Chartered Engineer (e.g. MCIBSE, MIET, MIEI etc.)
