AECOM Principal Electrical Engineer - Distribution Lead in Glasgow, United Kingdom

Job Description

The primary objective of this role is to lead a team in the development and delivery of distribution network design. You’ll be expected to provide technical expertise into bids and proposals and to represent the company in client meetings as appropriate.

Typical distribution engineering activities (related to T&D projects) include:

  • Low voltage and medium voltage (up to 33kV) network design

  • Low voltage and medium voltage cable sizing, routing and termination

  • Electrical system earthing design such as:

  • Earth grid design and modelling

  • Understanding of touch, step and transfer potential

  • Earthing and bonding requirements

  • Carrying out design work to DNO standards

  • Review of design packages carried out by others within the distribution team

  • Compliance and assurance design reviews of 3rd party design packages

  • Input into electrical system studies for LV and MV networks. Inputs such as:

  • Network configuration

  • Operating scenarios

  • Protection requirements

  • Arc flash requirements

You will lead and develop the distribution team and will have line management responsibility for those staff.

Qualifications

  • Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering

  • Proven distribution systems experience with capabilities in several of the areas noted above

  • Coordinate across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met

  • Experienced in creating and presenting technical reports; and responding to clients’ technical questions

  • Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers and develop client relationships

  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and requirements management

  • Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems

  • Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution

  • Prepared to take part in working groups such as CIGRE, IET and other professional bodies
