Job Summary

AECOM is recruiting ambitious and motivated engineers to join our Engineering Management discipline. As a leader in railway design delivering renewals, railway enhancements and new build railway, we work across all design stages from feasibility to detailed design and through our excellent links with chosen contractors, are able to offer our employees experience across the lifecycle of railway projects. We are part of the South Rail Systems Alliance which provides a strong pipeline of renewal and enhancement projects and the opportunity to work closely with our construction colleagues in Colas. We are on the Design Services Framework which provides a wide variety of works from the restoration of once closed railways to the remodelling of stations and structures. We provide consultancy services to industry leaders including TfL (engineering and consultancy framework) and the DfT (StarTwo). We are designing new infrastructure in the UK on HS2 as well as the transportation solution for the new city of NEOM in Saudi Arabia. About our team

We are organised into 5 regional teams but work as a single unit to deliver projects in any geography. As part of the engineering management discipline, you will be accountable for the technical delivery of projects; setting the direction by which a project will progress and managing the technical interfaces between engineering disciplines and stakeholders to deliver the best value outcome for the client against the requirements set.

You will be part of our continuous improvement strategy, sharing knowledge with other engineering management colleagues within the team to maintain high standards and efficient delivery across all our projects.

Role Description

As an Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for the development of delivery methodologies which manage risk, maximise on opportunities for the in pursuit of delivering multi-disciplinary projects to budget and schedule for our clients. On Network Rail projects, where documented in the Engineering and Construction Management Plan and specifically endorsed by the NR Senior Engineer, the Engineering Manager may be authorised to expand their role to carry out some Project Engineer duties subject to the successful assessment by the Designated Project Engineer via Form F0054.

Minimum Requirements

  • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer CEng / IEng.

  • Recognised engineering qualification or preferably a degree in Engineering.

  • Previous Contractor’s Engineering Manager experience in rail projects.

  • Strong technical leadership of teams in the delivery of projects focused on delivering for the Client.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent organisation skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

  • To be able to motivate teams and individuals to deliver their best work on projects.

  • To effectively plan, monitor and control the technical delivery

  • Apply principles of rail System Engineering including requirements specification and management, designing for robustness (Whole System Lifecycle), Safety by Design and System Integration and Verification.
