Job Summary
AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Mechanical Engineer for employment under the Germantown, MD office; work will be performed remotely at project locations. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in mechanical engineering related to public infrastructure. The incumbent can look forward to supporting FEMA’s disaster recovery efforts for disaster-damaged public infrastructure. Staff will be hired as full time employees to support active FEMA assignments for up to 12 months or more.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Assesses disaster-related damages to public infrastructure, develops scopes of work to restore the facility, and prepares a cost estimate for the work to be performed
Confirms that the identified damages and proposed scope of work comply with local and national codes and standards and FEMA eligibility criteria
Works directly with applicants requesting support from FEMA, managing the status of their grant development
Other contract and program management tasks
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
10+ years of experience in professional roles involving design and/or construction of mechanical systems of public infrastructure projects
PE
Ability to travel to disaster sites for up to 12 months or more
Ability to work professionally in the client’s office
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
Due to the nature of this work, U.S. citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with public mechanical related components of infrastructure including: Buildings (structural and non-structural components, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing for hospitals, schools, and other public buildings); Utilities (water distribution, water/wastewater treatment plants, power and natural gas systems, etc.)
