Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Dams Engineering Intern to be based in Germantown, MD.
This position is expected to begin in May 2023.
We are looking for an enthusiastic engineering student to work as part of a dedicated Dams Engineering practice in our Germantown, Maryland office. We are seeking a candidate who has a strong interest in one of the core areas of dam engineering (geotechnical, structural or hydrology and hydraulics engineering). This position will support a variety dams engineering projects across the East region, nationally and around the world.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Providing support for projects including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.
Working with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to dams and other hydraulic structures.
Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed.
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Currently in pursuit of a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering with an emphasis/interest in one of Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering Water Resources Engineering or other related degree.
Must have completed 3 years of study.
Due to the nature of this role, US citizenship is required.
Valid Driver's License is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
A GPA of 3.0 of higher.
Familiarity/capability in relevant engineering software programs such as GeoStudio, gINT, HECRAS, HEC-HMS, Mathcad, STADD Pro and Ansys.
Knowledge of dams engineering concepts through coursework or work experience
Experience in AutoCAD.
Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.
Effective written and oral communication skills.
Knowledge of MS Office Programs. Capable of functioning with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.
A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn, and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline driven environment.
Ability to travel for project work part time as needed.
