AECOM Principal Highways Engineer in Galway Technology Park, Ireland
Job Summary
Our Ireland Roads Team currently has a vacancy for a Principal Roads Engineer within our Dun Laoghaire or alternatively based in our Cork, or Galway offices.
We are looking to grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background and business development capabilities that share our enthusiasm and determination to develop our business and develop themselves into a leadership role within the team.
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer, or close to achieving Chartered status, with extensive experience in road engineering design and project management. They will be ready to take the next step in their career taking a leadership role in the delivery and co-ordination of projects and design packages on complex road and infrastructure projects alongside ensuring these projects perform financially.
They will have the ability to lead complex projects and deal directly with clients. They will also be capable of providing technical leadership with the wider team leading senior engineers, graduate engineers, technicians, and supporting disciplines to successful deliver our projects.
The role will suit a self-motivated individual who is aspiring to take a lead role in project delivery and manage dynamic teams delivering high quality projects. The person will need adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from office for short duration to suit project needs.
They will have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of local, national, and international road schemes or similar major civil engineering projects, and will have being directly responsible for delivering scheme design packages, and co-ordinating input from other disciplines.

The Ireland Roads team works both locally and across the UK&I market. Our current portfolio ofworks comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international urban and rural road and transportation schemes across significant delivery programmes for major Clients such as TII, NTA, Local Authorities, and DAA.

Job Responsibilities Include:
Coach, mentor, support, and provide senior guidance and leadership for design team members – senior engineers, engineers, graduates, apprentices, and trainee technicians
Co-ordinates and manages project teams and small - to mid-size projects. It is expected the candidate will also take on AECOM financial management system responsibilities and will be responsible for project financial performance.
Serves as discipline Lead engineer on mid-to large- size projects
Provides specialised technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
Approves and signs off on work, and provides early verification of projects to ensure limited rework.
Provides technical direction for studies and design efforts
Presents complex technical solutions to clients
Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
Participates in development of technical proposals
Managing and developing both internal and external client relationships;
Work under the direction of and in support to project directors to deliver projects in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision, possessing the ability to solve any problems encountered along with identifying discrepancies in results
Managing the workload and the technical management and oversight of a design team;
Writing and overseeing the preparation of contract documents and technical reports as required;
Lead the provision of technical inputs, across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering
Show technical competence and through experience, gather and take on board the skills of others in computer based applications and tasks including use of software such as MX, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MS Project.
Ensuring compliance with all relevant technical standards;
Contribute to the development of technical proposals
Plan, lead and undertake site visits as required.
Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required.
Liaise and manage sub-consultants and external parties.
Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including; office disciplines and projects.
Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment along with personal, professional development
Minimum Requirements
CEng required, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience of leading projects and teams in urban or rural transportation projects
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Civil Engineering or similar (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc)
Chartered Engineer
