Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Superintendent to be based in our Imperial Oil Kearl location in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

The Superintendent is responsible for the preparation and execution of maintenance work in accordance with Business Unit requirements and standards including liaising with client personnel and the appropriate Planner/s. The role supports the Site Manager in delivering the maintenance services & break in work support to the respective Business Units.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Ensures that all maintenance activities are carried out in a safe, effective manner through adherence to all Workplace Health & Safety regulations all Client and AECOM procedures, policies, standards and controls.

  • Ensures that all staff and workforce are fully knowledgeable of Client and AECOM Contractor Health, safety, Environmental and Security policies and procedures and that all efforts are exercised to meet or exceed safety goals.

  • Works with the workforce to ensure their active participation in and alignment with Client’s safety programs and systems.

  • Ensures the continued success of maintenance activities by actively identifying, investigating and eliminating the root cause of all actual and potential loss events.

  • Contributes to improving safety and productivity by recommending and implementing changes to procedures, standards, rules and work practices. Proactively identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions.

  • Supports area efforts to provide a safe and healthy working environment in assuring adherence to all Client and AECOM and legislated OH&S, environmental and other regulations.

  • Primary maintenance responsibilities include HSSE and Quality program compliance, attainment of maintenance milestones, resource management, and interface with Supply Chain Management and workforce administration systems.

  • Participates in detailed planning of the field activities.

  • Leads development of the Maintenance execution plan during Front End Engineering. The plan will include the milestone schedule, the strategy, execution sequence and planning, and work package breakdown.

  • Cost effective utilization of workforce, including balancing work and resource levelling, will be a priority.

  • Monitors maintenance progress, quality control, cost control and scheduling.

  • Provides updates to the schedule and plans.

  • Ensures consistent use of an effective and timely trend system to capture any and all cost, quality or schedule deviations as formalized trends from the approved cost and schedule. Deviations will be brought to the attention of the appropriate Manager within 24 hours of their occurrence.

  • Ensures Client and AECOM KPI for all maintenance activities are understood and complied with.

  • Interfaces with Supply Chain Management to support material procurement and contract administration activities as required.

  • Ensures all necessary material and equipment has been procured and is available for use.

  • Manages resources requirements for the respective projects.

  • Compiles and completes various reports to Manager as required. Key reporting will include critical project parameters such as safety issues, labour issues, progress, trends, maintenance activities, man hours, and quality issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in a similar maintenance position.

  • MMP certification is a preference.

  • Blue seal certification is a preference.

  • High School Completion

  • Relevent Journeyman Certification required.

  • A minimum of five years proved proficiency in a Supervisory position and a familiarity with the maintenance and oilfield work practices.

  • Formal supervisory or management training/ certification.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of contractor and procurement principles, practice and legislation.

  • Strong negotiation skills, communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Team Player to deliver desire outcomes.

  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS) Certification.

  • First Aid – Standard Level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business Degree or Diploma would be an asset.

  • PMP designation would be an asset.

  • MMP designation would be an asset.

  • Blue seal certification would be an asset.
