Job Summary

AECOM is looking for a QC Inspector to join our maintenance services team at Imperial Oil Kearl in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

This would be for the upcoming Shutdown. Travel from Calgary and Edmonton.

May include the following responsibilities:

  • Help to implement and maintain a project quality control system including design and development of welding specifications and practices.

  • Ensure that Quality Control is carried out in a satisfactory manner according to the specification and applicable codes.

  • Witness the qualification of weld procedures and welders as required.

  • Liaise with Aecom site administration relative to the execution of project scope requirements.

  • Participate and execute audits per QMS.

  • Ensure compliance to regulatory requirements for all work conducted by AECOM relative to the scope of work (i.e. ABSA, CWB, CSA).

  • Ensures turnover documentation is completed and delivered to the client relative to the scope of work.

  • Review and Maintain Quality Control Records for accuracy.

  • Maintain the welding register for welding operators on site for AECOM and administer the work package to ensure the proper material qualified personal and procedures are used on the worksite.

  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformance relating to the product, process and quality system. Resolve issues of issued NCR’s.

  • Recommend and initiate improvements to the Quality Management System and implement these improvements in conjunction with the Quality Coordinator.

  • Control further processing, delivery or installation of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.

  • Administrate issues brought forward to them from QC Inspectors and process non-conformance reports.

Minimum Requirements


  • 6 years hands on experience in a field or corporate position in a quality role within a maintenance, construction, or oil/gas environment.

  • Associates degree or 2+ years of formal technical training or demonstrated equivalent.

  • Exposure to QC delivery in the Oil & Gas business.

  • Experience with piping and vessels.

  • Experience with creating work packages such as ISP, assigning welding procedures and material documentation.

  • Experience with SAP an asset.

  • Experience with WHMIS, Confined space entry, Harness training an asset.

  • First Aid- Standard Level.

  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training Systems).

  • Confined Space Monitor.

  • Fall Arrest and/or Fall Protection (Typically OSSA issued ticket) Certification.

  • Confined Space Entry/Monitor Certification.

  • A valid Class 1 or Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract are requirements of this position.

Skills Requirements:

  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook.

  • Familiar with SAP, Primavera and QMS databases.

  • Read and interpret construction drawings specific to mechanical, piping, rotary and E&I disciplines.

  • Able to develop and deliver mentoring and training for respective staff.

  • Communicate at high level of effectiveness both written and verbally.

  • Develop continual improvement processes effecting the site QMS.

  • Strong management skills.

  • Team player to deliver desired outcomes.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of quality principles, practice, and legislation.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Formal Education:

Journeyman Trade Certification.

Professional Designation:

CWB Welding Inspector CWB Level II, or Level III.

C.E.T. Certification (or other engineering technical training) an asset.

API certification 570 and 510 would be an asset.

CSA 178.2 CWB Level II Certification.

Additional Training:

H2S Alive.

AWP - Aerial Work Platform Certification.
