AECOM Millwright Foreman in Fort McMurray, Alberta

Job Summary

AECOM is currently seeking a Millwright Foreman to join our SUNCOR Firebag project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a Full-Time position on a 14/14 shift rotation unless otherwise specified.

  • Approximate duration: Permanent/Full-Time

  • Location: 120 km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta.

  • Travel: Charter flights provided from Calgary and Edmonton , and bus from Fort McMurray

  • Accommodation: Camp accommodation will be provided to all workers

  • Overtime Eligibility: All craft will be eligible for overtime

  • CLAC Union agreement in place; with competitive rates

Millwrights install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot stationary industrial machinery and mechanical equipment in sites such as factories, production plants and recreational facilities.

Millwright Foreman will be expected to do but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Lead a small group of employees in the same trade, playing an intermediate role between workers and supervisors and is responsible for the smooth and safe operation of the team, helping the workers to meet goals, and mediating concerns with upper management.

  • Coordinates the team and is responsible for applying policies and procedures.

  • Involved with, and supportive of, disciplinary actions brought about by supervisors.

  • Other duties may include arranging for extra workers, evaluating the quality of work of team members, organizing crew tasks, maintaining work standards, resolving issues between team members, and mentoring Apprentices.

  • Promotes a safe work environment and is responsible for the safety of the crew with a clear understanding of any related occupational and safety laws.

  • Ensure team members comply with safety regulations, identify a need for safety training, complete an initial safety and hazard assessment, participate in accident investigations, and see to timely resolution of safety concerns.

  • Accountable for team’s ability to meet production goals and may identify requirements for specific materials or tools and communicate these requests to the appropriate person to support team production.

  • Inform supervisor of any scheduling conflicts and assists in resolving them.

  • Understands the need to prioritize work schedules to meet goals.

  • Reports into Trade or General Foreman, depending on size of the project.

  • May report directly into Superintendent if smaller project.

  • Read diagrams and schematic drawings and service manuals to determine work procedures

  • Operate rigging equipment and dollies to place heavy machinery and parts

  • Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach motors, and connect couplings and belts to precise tolerances

  • Align and test equipment, and make any necessary adjustments

  • Perform predictive and operational procedures

  • Repair or replace defective parts

  • Service and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems

Conditions of Employment for this position are:

  1. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Background Check policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, the role must complete a satisfactory pre-employment Background Check. This may consist of all or a combination of the following: Canadian Criminal Record check, an Employment Verification and/or an Education and Accreditation Verification.

  2. For positions that fall into the list of required positions within the AECOM Oil & Gas Alcohol & Drug (A&D) policy, qualified applicants who are offered, and accept, a position must provide evidence of a satisfactory Alcohol & Drug test in accordance with the Company's Alcohol & Drug Policy. In order to be valid, the test must have been conducted at the direction of AECOM - O&G Business Unit.

Minimum Requirements

  • Journeyman Certification required

  • Previous experience supervising/leading mechanical crew(s)

  • Previous Maintenance Services experience required (e.g. Steady state, Turnaround, Shutdown, Outage, etc.)

  • Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS-09 or 2020) Certification

  • Other safety ticket(s) and orientation(s) required, as per the project team

Preferred Qualifications

  • A valid Class 1 or Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract

  • Red Seal preferred or required by provincial regulations and standards
