Job Summary
AECOM is currently seeking a Machinist Journeyman to join our SUNCOR Firebag project team on site near Fort McMurray, Alberta. This is a Full-Time position on a 14/14 shift rotation unless otherwise specified.

Approximate duration: Permanent/Full-Time
Location: 120 km northeast of Fort McMurray, Alberta.
Travel: Charter flights provided from Calgary and Edmonton , and bus from Fort McMurray
Accommodation: Camp accommodation will be provided to all workers
Overtime Eligibility: All craft will be eligible for overtime
CLAC Union agreement in place; with competitive rates
Machinists set up and operate precision metal cutting (line boring) machining equipment to make and repair products made from metals on heavy mining equipment.
Machinists work according to very precise specifications. When there are no prints or other specifications, they determine dimensions by logic or by measuring samples using instruments such as micrometers and calipers. Electronic instruments have digital readouts and require the operator to program them for use.
To perform a typical machining task, Machinists:
Study specifications, charts, drawings or sample parts to determine the machining operation to be performed,
Calculate dimensions and tolerances, and prepare working sketches if necessary,
Measure and mark metal and other materials,
Set up and operate tools, which may be computer numerically controlled, to perform precision machining operations, and
Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.
Machinist Journeyman Responsibilities
Overhauling & maintaining various types of large open cut mining equipment,
Onsite line boring operations and surface milling procedures on all makes and models of open cut - mining equipment,
Possess the ability to provide 'bore surveys and condition reports to bores and bushings,
Workshop and field-based machining operations on a wide variety of earth moving components to tight tolerances (such as +/- .0005” in most cases),
Blueprint reading,
I.D bore welding and bore reclamation; face build ups and machining to OEM specifications,
Onsite maintenance including but not limited to: Caterpillar & Komatsu haul trucks, track dozers, graders, front end loaders, excavators and shovels.

Minimum Requirements
Journeyman Certification in the Machinist trade or years experience working as a machinist
Previous Maintenance Services experience required (e.g. Steady state, Turnaround, Shutdown, Outage, etc.)
Excellent mechanical ability
Strong analytical skills with a solution focus
Use of measuring tools in an accurate manner
Able to estimate and measure sizes and lengths accurately
Able to work independently at tasks that require concentration as well as physical effort
Basic computer knowledge
Strength, stamina and the use of proper lifting techniques
Construction Safety Training Systems (CSTS 09 or CSTS 2020) Certification
Other safety ticket(s) and orientation(s) required, as per the project team
Preferred Qualifications
A valid Class 1 or Class 5 driver’s license and a clean driver’s abstract
Red Seal preferred or required by provincial regulations and standards
