Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Geologist III to be based in our Fort Lauderdale FL office. This position will support our Remediation team within our Environment business line. This position is expected to begin immediately.

The Geologist III will serve as a team member in the office and the field, assisting project and program management with design and implementation of soil, groundwater, sediment and surface water investigative and remediation programs, data analysis, and report preparation.

This position will also assist in the performance of regulatory compliance inspections, sampling, and reporting associated with the implementation of permit and/or regulator requirements for commercial/industrial facilities.

Job responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.

  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

  • Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.

  • Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.

  • Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.

  • Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • BA/BS + 4 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Valid US Driver’s License and must be able to pass AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.

  • PG certified

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds and safely drive a full-size pickup truck.

  • Ability to travel up to 30 - 50% per business needs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Geology or Hydrogeology

  • 5+ years of experience in environmental consulting, including field-sampling procedures (groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging, etc.), soil boring/monitoring well installations, analytical data interpretation and reporting.

  • Experience with CERCLA and RCRA remediation programs at complex sites

  • Proficient with data analysis, modeling, and visualization using Earth Volumetric Studio (EVS), geographic information systems, database systems, and numeric computing environments

  • OSHA 40-hr Hazardous Waste Operations Training

  • Professional Geologist License

  • Ability to understand and supervise advancement of soil borings and installation of monitoring wells

  • Experience in the collection and evaluation of environmental data in field and office settings.

  • Experience with ArcGIS

  • Familiarity with State (i.e PADEP, NJDEP etc) and Federal Environmental Regulations
