AECOM Senior Railway Engineer in Edmonton, Alberta

Canada - Alberta, Calgary

Job Summary

The Transportation business line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented full time Senior Railway Engineer for the Calgary, AB Quarry Park office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Reporting to the Alberta Rail Lead, provide engineering, technical, and management support to the Rail Group.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and willingness to get involved in planning, design, and construction as projects dictate.

  • Embrace project management principles and become an AECOM Project Manager.

  • Manage projects up to $10 million in fee value, ensuring success in safety, quality, schedule, and budget.

  • Lead preparation of safety plans, proposals, design packages, technical specifications, and tender documentation.

  • Have a hands-on role in developing track and grade designs in Civil 3D.

  • Chair meetings with clients, contractors, and others for project delivery and business development.

  • Mentor and train less experienced team members in both office and field settings.

  • Verify deliverables meet AECOM and client quality requirements.

  • Provide P.Eng. sign-off on designs and reports.

  • Maintains a strong knowledge of client, industry and regulatory requirements.

  • Assist in team operational management, including resource planning and performance assessments.

  • Coordinate with other internal groups and business lines as needed.

  • Work independently with minimal guidance except for complex and unusual situations.

  • Willingness for field work and travel.

Minimum Requirements

  • Engineering degree (Civil preferred)

  • A minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.

  • P.Eng. designation (or eligible)

  • 5+ years of design/office experience

  • 5+ years of field experience

  • Strong understanding of AREMA & Class I Railway standards

  • Experienced managing multi-disciplinary projects

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills (English)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of freight rail and/or LRT experience

  • 15+ years of civil experience

  • PMP Designation

  • Certified Track Inspector

  • Strong understanding of LRT / Transit design standards.

  • Proficient with AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • Thorough understanding of all areas of Railway Operations (Rolling Stock, Signals & Communications, etc.)

  • Experience with various delivery / procurement methods is an asset including design-build and P3.
