AECOM Senior Civil Engineering Specialist, Rail in Edmonton, Alberta

Job Summary

AECOM Transportation is actively seeking a motivated Senior Railway Engineering Specialist to join our growing Alberta Rail & Signals team. As an established leader in the railway industry, our Alberta rail team has over 500 years of collective experience successfully delivering projects for a variety of clients. This team and its wider Canadian backbone provide the opportunity to work on some of the largest and most exciting railway projects in the country, while offering room to carve out your own niche.

As part of your role you will not only perform technical Civil Engineering activities, but also be able to identify areas for innovating and developing new service offerings. The right candidate will also be enthusiastic about mentoring and coaching our next generation of engineers and technologists.

This is a casual as-&-when position, allowing flexibility with working hours, working from home, extended vacations, and is particularly well suited to those looking to ease into retirement. Part time or full time positions may also be considered.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following characteristics:

  • Well-rounded experience including successfully delivering safety, quality, budget, and schedule in both management and technical roles.

  • Experience delivering multidisciplinary projects, in an internal design management or a client-facing project management role.

  • Able to balance the needs of multiple projects and stakeholders at any given time with minimal direction.

  • Able to self-direct and work independently, but also lead and mentor our up-and-coming talent.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Reputation for consistently meeting or exceeding commitments.

  • Eager to tackle new or unusual challenges, and find solutions through innovation.

Daily tasks may include:

  • Completing and overseeing technical track and civil designs from concept to construction.

  • Business development, including writing proposals and estimating level of effort requirements.

  • Liaising on contractual and financial matters with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Meeting with clients regarding new opportunities, ongoing projects, or correcting dissatisfaction.

  • Overseeing field or construction activities, providing quality assurance for clients.

  • Mentoring, directing, and challenging less experienced staff.

This casual position will be based in our modern Edmonton (Stony Plain Rd) office.

Minimum Requirements

  • BA/BS + 6 YORE or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Electrical or any relevant discipline area

  • North American Heavy Rail Design & Construction Experience

  • P.Eng., CET, or Similar Professional Designation.

  • 20+ years North American freight rail experience.

  • Consulting experience.

  • Competent in AutoCAD / Civil 3D for track and grading design.

  • Thorough understanding of all areas of Railway Operations (Rolling Stock, Signals & Communications, Etc.)
