Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Electrical Engineer-In-Training, Rail S&C to be based in Calgary-AB, Burnaby-BC, or Edmonton-AB (Canada).

The Transportation business line of AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Engineering student or recent graduate. This position may be based out of any of our Western Canada offices with work from home flexibility with a preference to be based out of Calgary. This will be a contract position with the possibility of becoming a full time permanent position in the future.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Internships are designed to introduce and build essential, hands on skills that differ from those attained in the academic arena and help to enhance the transition from student to professional.

  • Interns are assigned duties that will provide a broad, well-rounded learning experience within their field of study

  • Intern 1 – completion of first year of qualified study

  • Provide engineering, technical, and management support to the Freight Rail and Transit Signals and Communications Group.

  • Assist with the preparation of proposals, design packages, and tender documentation.

  • Embrace project management principles and provide support to PMs.

  • Assist with preparation of design drawings for transit and freight rail signal systems that meet client and AECOM quality standards.

  • Produce plan sets including the filing and archiving of drawings and assists with quality reviews before drawings are released.

  • Complete first and second level checks for electrical designs.

  • AECOM does not mandate an in-office presence, and our Freedom to Grow program supports individual discussions about what works best for you, our clients, and our business in determining working arrangements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in a university program pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a Technical Diploma (Electrical or Software).

  • Must have completed 1 year of study

Preferred Qualifications

  • Related transportation and/or electrical/software experience.

  • Eligible for registration with APEGA or ASET.

  • Team player who is willing to take ownership of assigned work with ability to establish and meet deadlines consistently.

  • Demonstrates analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities.

  • Works independently with general guidance except for complex and unusual situations.

  • Some skill in utilizing 2D AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, and an interest in growing that skill.

  • Proficient in Excel (experience with macros an asset)

  • Basic knowledge of Programmable Logic Controls Hardware & Software.

  • Basic understanding of Relay logic.

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills and willingness to get involved in planning, design, and construction as projects dictate.

  • Willingness for field work and travel
