Position Title Technical Director - Fire Engineering

AECOM is seeking to appoint a Technical Director for its Fire Engineering Practice, a role with a national focus.
The ideal candidate will be technically proficient in a broad range of applied fire engineering through all phases of project delivery, from design to on-site works.
This role represents a significant opportunity for a technically focused fire engineering expert to join and influence a world leading consultancy, with opportunity to work on some of the largest fire related projects across the UK. You can be based in either London, Manchester, Saint Albans or Edinburgh.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
Being part of the Fire Engineering Practice’s Leadership Team.
Shaping the Fire Engineering Practice’s technical direction of travel.
Overseeing technical consistency across the Fire Engineering Practice’s project teams and offices, as well as sharing best-practice approaches to ensure adequate technical rigour is applied.
Providing technical oversight for projects being delivered by the Fire Engineering Practice.
Leading design and construction due diligence reviews on behalf of the Firm relating to its investment portfolio.
Leading peer reviews of fire engineering works being delivered by other consultancies.
Leading Research and Development initiatives from raising funding applications through delivery, post-project completion, knowledge dissemination and implementation.
Maintaining our links and fostering collaborative working relationships with academic institutions.
Representing AECOM at technical fire related external conferences and sitting on technical committees.
Raising the technical profile of the Fire Engineering Practice, internally and externally, e.g. through producing and supporting others in the preparation and publication of technical fire engineering journal papers.
Working with the Fire Engineering Practice’s Leadership Team to provide technical training for staff for their continued professional development.
Encourage and support staff membership of professional institutions, particularly the Institute of Fire Engineers.
Conducting technical interviews of potential candidates for AECOM’s Fire Engineering Practice
With excellent report-writing, communication and interpersonal skills, the candidate will:
be a Chartered Engineer, with membership status or higher within the Institute of Fire Engineering;
have a strong understanding of the technical fundamentals of fire engineering, including most or all of the following:
smoke control, heat transfer and fluid dynamics;
computational fluid dynamic modelling using FDS;
structural fire engineer (probabilistic and deterministic);
Risk assessment (qualitative and quantified).
a broad background and experience applying common UK guidance such as:
Approved Document B;
The Non-Domestic Technical Handbook.
good knowledge of other design codes for common building types, such as those used for schools, hospitals, stations, airports and residential projects.
Salary - £85,000 - £95,000
Car Allowance - Between £5,000 - £6,150 (dependent on grade offer)
Annual Leave – 25 Days + 8 Bank Holidays
Pension – 4% Employee Contribution, 6% Employer Contribution

Working Hours – Monday – Friday, 40 hours a week
