Job Summary

The AECOM Building Surveying Team, have an exciting new opportunity for an Associate Director (AD), to build and lead their Edinburgh team. The individual must therefore have as a minimum the following experience, knowledge and attributes detailed below.

Build and Lead

We need an experienced mature professional Associate Director who can;

  • lead a team

  • build a team

  • formulate a strategy for building the team

  • lead, mentor and nurture the team

  • promote the RICS APC and support junior team members during their APC

  • build for the long term to create something special which will ultimately be one of the best Building Surveying teams in Edinburgh

Market Knowledge

We need an AD who;

  • has extensive knowledge of the Edinburgh market

  • has operated in its environment for a number of years

  • the Edinburgh market knows, and has a good positive profile and reputation

Business Development

The candidate will have the following attributes;

  • the drive, desire and experience, to develop a BD strategy for the “new” team

  • the drive, desire and experience, to execute the BD strategy for the “new” team

  • established client briefs, appropriate fees, and cost control through to completion.

  • delivered fee bids and tendering

  • the drive, desire and personality to reach out and meet new and existing external Clients

  • experience of working and building relationships within the private and public sector

  • the drive, desire and personality to collaborate and build internal relationships throughout the wider Edinburgh AECOM team

  • the drive, desire and personality to build internal relationships throughout the wider AECOM BS national team

  • confidence preparing and presenting to a Client/audience

Operations

We need an AD who is;

  • able and content to manage/deliver all the operations tasks that AECOM demands

  • able to manage all financial, commercial and risk management tasks from project inception through to completion

  • able to comfortably deal with all PMR and HR challenges

Minimum Requirements

Day to Day Building Surveying

The AD will have extensive experience and knowledge of delivering all types of Building Surveying projects and services on their own. These services will include;

  • all construction project services

  • all professional survey services

  • adhering and looking to continuously improve our standards, processes and knowledge to deliver to our core clients

  • experience of working in multi-disciplinary teams

  • management of sub consultants and contractors

  • excellent client and team interpersonal skills.

The AD will deliver, lead and assist by example to all other team members

Preferred Qualifications

In terms of qualifications, the AD must;

  • be educated to at least degree level or equivalent, in a Building Surveying RICS accredited degree

  • have extensive post Chartership experience

  • NEC3 Supervisor experience desirable but not essential

  • have excellent client facing experience.

  • be passionate about Building Surveying, developing a team and furthering your long term career with a leading construction consultancy.

  • have an open willingness to support developing surveyors and respond to their demands and questions.

  • be a strong leader and communicator.

  • be looking for the next step in building surveying leadership.

  • be a role model to the team, setting high standards and expectations.
