AECOM Associate - Water & Wastewater Engineer in Durban, South Africa

Job Summary

This role presents an opportunity to fast-track your technical and business development skills, working with a range of specialists across the globe, delivering a wide range of infrastructure projects while establishing and building existing client relationships.

We are seeking a future leader with an interest in succession and long-term growth in AECOM - an individual who is looking to develop their career within a global organisation – whether that be through people management, technical specialisation or project management.

The role includes helping to deliver large water infrastructure programs encompassing strategic planning and asset management, concept and detailed design, construction and commissioning support. We also support our major internal clients for transport, energy, mining and minerals, oil and gas, ports and marine sectors.

The candidate will be required to act as a project manager on medium to large sized multi-disciplinary water projects. He/she must have an excellent understanding of project delivery requirements and best practise procedures. Must be well versed in project requirements such as health and safety, environmental, quality management and budget management. Will also be required to act as a project director on smaller to medium sized projects.

The candidate must be able to prepare technical designs and specifications related to the water systems field. A general knowledge of all sectors would be preferred e.g. water and wastewater treatment, bulk water and sanitation pipeline conveyance (pumpstations and pipelines), water and sanitation network design and other associated works. The projects generally range throughout the various project stages i.e. planning / feasibility up to construction and close out.

The candidate must support the business development and selling initiatives to expand work assignments, including managing client relationships and expectations. Assists with proposals and participates in the development of bids and technical write-up for proposals. Leads communication with clients to discuss work scope, requests information to support project execution and receives client comments on draft work products.

Minimum Requirements

  • 12+ Years' experience after obtainment of Qualification

  • Demonstrated experience in delivering water infrastructure projects to a high standard, within budget and on time

  • Successful track record delivering work within a consultancy environment

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary projects in planning and design phases

  • Passionate about developing yourself to be a future leader and initiator of our vision to build a better world

  • Experience in working across multidisciplinary stakeholder groups

  • Technical experience in the following areas: gravity and pressure pipelines, pump stations and treatment plants

  • Experience covering all aspects of the capital project lifecycle from planning, through design, construction and commissioning

  • Identifies and develops new processes that lead to improved efficiency or work quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • B. Eng (Civ) or B.Sc (Civ Eng) (Master would be beneficial)

  • Pr. Eng (Civ)

  • Proficiency in steady state and transient hydraulic modelling
