Our UK&I Transmission and Distribution (T&D) team is spread across multiple offices in UK and Ireland, with established offices in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick as well as Belfast and Londonderry in (NI). If you are not located near the main office in Dublin, we will consider a remote-working arrangement.

The Team:

AECOM is recruiting for Senior or Principal level Engineer to join our growing T&D team based in the Republic of Ireland. The need arises from major growth in our work for traditional and non-traditional end-markets including the connection renewable generation to the transmission system to meet the government’s 2030 targets and the connection of hyperscale data centres to the transmission system.

The Role:

We are looking for a Senior/Principal Engineer with experience in HV substation design to join our Irish T&D department. The T&D department delivers project management, design and owners engineer role for electrical power projects at transmission and distribution voltages across Ireland and across the world. The focus of the team is large-scale grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private networks. The work can be varied and there will be a lot of opportunity to learn in the role. Some of the tasks that might be required are listed below:

• Design of new transmission substations on green field sites

• Feasibility studies and design of upgrades to existing transmission infrastructure

• Detailed HV cable design and earthing studies

• Owners engineer role including site attendance supervision for substation construction

• Preparing planning applications for transmission projects

The work typically comes from:

• Large projects and frameworks with transmission network operators mostly in Ireland but also in UK, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.

• Client and owners engineer role on construction of HV infrastructure

• Connection of renewable generation and major grid connected demand loads such as hyperscale data centres

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

Required/Essential Skills & Experience:

• Understanding of EirGrid and/or ESB design process.

• Previous experience with high voltage substation design or construction projects.

• Understanding of electrical plant items and control systems such as transformers, GIS and AIS switchgear, etc.

• Ability to work flexibly across multiple projects.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

• Experience on projects related to feasibility of HV networks in Ireland

• Experience of managing multi-discipline engineering projects

• Experience of the review of the detailed designs & site construction.

Preferred Qualifications :

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
