AECOM Senior Roads Engineer in Dun Laoghaire, Ireland

Job Summary

Our Ireland Roads Team currently has a vacancy for a Senior Engineer within our Dun Laoghaire office following continued growth of the workload and the team.

The successful candidate will be working towards achieving Chartered status and will have a good grounding in civil engineering design and project management, ideally with experience of working on Urban or Rural Roads schemes in Ireland.

They will have experience of working as part of multi-disciplinary project team developing designs for Civil engineering infrastructure, road schemes or similar major civil engineering projects.

The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team that works closely with our wider multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative and efficient solutions for our major clients.

The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design as well as associated scheme assessment services on a wide range of transportation and engineering projects and also supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a Roads interface.

The Dublin Roads Team has been in place for over 20 years, the Roads Team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients across the Irish Public Sector, including TII, NTA, and many local authorities throughout Ireland, and major agencies such as DAA. Recent successes have included the delivery of the M7 widening detailed design, supporting the NTA on BusConnects and with the NTA Cycle Design Office, work on local distributor roads for Meath County Council, and progression of major TII Phase 1 to 4 schemes such as the N2 Rath to Kilmoon Cross and the N4 Mullingar to Longford.

The Dublin Roads Team works both locally and across the UK & I market on a mix of urban and rural projects.Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international infrastructure improvements.

At an Ireland level the following are some of the current projects:

  • BusConnects, Prelim Design

  • NTA Cycle Design Office

  • Martin Roundabout Upgrade

  • Junction and cycle improvement schemes across Ireland (Dublin, Wicklow, Galway, Kildare)

  • M7 Naas to Newbridge & Salins Bypass, detailed design & site supervision

  • N69 Foynes to Limerick, Prelim Design and Planning

  • N2 Rath to Kilmoon Cross, Prelim Design

  • Luas Finglas Options Stage

  • Local Distributor Road 4, Abbeyland on behalf of Meath County Council

Job responsibilities:

  • Coach, mentor, support, and provide day to day guidance and leadership for design team members – engineers, graduates, apprentices, and trainee technicians

  • Manage and develop both internal and external client relationships

  • Work under the direction of, and in support to, project directors and principal engineers to perform tasks in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision, possessing the ability to solve any problems encountered along with identifying discrepancies in results

  • Manage the workload and the technical management and oversight of a design team

  • Write and oversee the preparation of contract documents and technical reports as required

  • Deliver all specified project outcomes on time, within budget and to the quality required

  • Lead the provision of technical inputs, across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering

  • Show technical competence and through experience, gather and take on board the skills of others in computer based applications and tasks including use of software such as MX, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MS Project.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards;

  • Undertake project activities in line with company policy, including technical and commercial aspects.

  • Identify and manage project risks.

  • Contribute to the development of technical proposals

  • Plan, lead and undertake site visits as required.

  • Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required.

  • Liaise and manage sub-consultants and external parties.

  • Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including office disciplines and projects.

  • Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment along with personal, professional development

Minimum Requirements

  • Previous post-graduation experience in civil engineering, roads, highways, traffic design or similar discipline

  • Working knowledge of the TII Publications/Standards and UK DMRB, and ideally an understanding of the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS) and National Cycle Manual, or similar transferable international experience

  • Experience of the Traffic Signs Manual

  • Ability to travel to other areas in the region as needed to meet business requirements

Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Road alignment design using software such as (Civil 3D, MX etc)

  • General road design

  • Drainage modelling/design using Windes

  • Preparation of contract documents and pricing documents (to PWC or other similar form)

  • Procurement of ancillary construction contracts (topo/GI/surveys)

  • AUTOCAD and Microsoft office suite of programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or similar (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc)

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status

  • Safe Pass
