Job Description
AECOM has an opening for an Environmental Technician I in or near our Duluth, Minnesota office. The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, reliable and have good interpersonal communication skills. Residency in Duluth, MN is required for this role, as it is not a remote position.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Performs soil, groundwater, surface water, waste, sediment and air sampling.
Performs operation and maintenance (O&M) on treatment systems.
Uses field instruments and equipment as necessary to meet health and safety as well as field sampling and O&M requirements.
Documents all field activities and notes.
Performs subcontractor oversight.
Communicates effectively with project managers.
Has a high degree of health and safety awareness.
Works within defined scopes, schedules and budgets while producing quality work.
Maintains knowledge of sampling procedures and protocols in accordance with recognized industry standards.
Will work under close supervision of an engineer or scientist. Work will entail daily and overnight travel to worksites primarily in/near Minnesota, but may include travel to other states as required
Candidate must also be able to work as part of a project team comprised of AECOM staff and subcontractors. Flexibility to work on a multitude of diverse projects, a positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety are imperative. Field work will be required including oversight of subcontractors.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
A valid driver's license and clean driving record is required for this position.
US Citizen/US Permanent Resident.
Ability to travel up to 90% to various job sites within US.
Preferred Qualifications
An Associate's Degree(s) or trade certification is a plus.
0-2 years of experience in a similar capacity.
The position will require the ability to pass pre-employment drug screening
Collect and evaluate environmental data in field and office settings.
Selected candidates will be required to complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training or an annual refresher class if needed.
Selected Candidates will also receive First Aid/CPR training and AECOM-specific training.
Candidates must exhibit a mature sense of professional responsibility and awareness of accepted standards of professional behavior.
Candidates should have proficient technical writing skills and the ability to effectively express themself orally in project reviews conducted among internal staff.
Independent fieldwork experience.
Contractor oversight experience.
Possess strong work ethic and problem-solving skills.
Candidate must be proficient with basic computer programs; MS Word and MS Excel.
