Job Summary

Our Ireland Roads Team currently has a vacancy for an Engineer to be based out of our Dun Laoghaire office, following continued growth of the workload and the team.

The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team that works closely with our wider multidisciplinary team to deliver innovative and efficient solutions for our major clients.

The Dublin Roads Team has been in place for over 20 years and are involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients across the Irish Public Sector, including TII, NTA, many local authorities throughout Ireland, and major agencies such as DAA. The team work both locally and across the UK & I market on a mix of urban and rural projects. Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international infrastructure improvements.

At an Ireland level the following are some of the current projects:

  • BusConnects, Prelim Design

  • NTA Cycle Design Office

  • Martin Roundabout Upgrade

  • Junction and cycle improvement schemes across Ireland (Dublin, Wicklow, Galway, Kildare)

  • M7 Naas to Newbridge & Salins Bypass, detailed design & site supervision

  • N69 Foynes to Limerick, Prelim Design and Planning

  • N2 Rath to Kilmoon Cross, Prelim Design

  • Luas Finglas Options Stage

  • Local Distributor Road 4, Abbeyland on behalf of Meath County Council.

Job responsibilities:

  • Mentor, support, and provide day to day guidance and leadership for junior design team members – graduates, apprentices, and trainee technicians

  • Work under the direction of and in support to Principal / Senior Engineers to perform tasks in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision, possessing the ability to solve any problems encountered along with identifying discrepancies in results

  • Assist in the provision of technical inputs, across a range of specialisms in the field of Roads and Civil engineering

  • Show technical competence and through experience, gather and take on board the skills of others in computer-based applications and tasks including use of software such as Open Roads/Civil 3D, WinDES, and the Microsoft Office Suite of programmes including MS Project.

  • Undertake project activities in line with company policy, including technical and commercial aspects.

  • Take an assistant role on projects

  • Contribute to the development of technical proposals

  • Plan, lead and undertake site visits as required.

  • Plan and attend meetings – internal and external, as required.

  • Liaise and manage sub-consultants and external parties.

  • Participate as a team member on a number of levels, including; office disciplines and projects.

  • Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment along with personal, professional development

Minimum Requirements

  • Previous post-graduation experience in civil engineering, roads, highways, traffic design or similar discipline

  • Working knowledge of the TII Publications/Standards and UK DMRB, and ideally an understanding of the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS) and National Cycle Manual, or similar transferable international experience

  • Experience of the Traffic Signs Manual

  • Ability to travel to other areas in the region as needed to meet business requirements

Experience in one or more of the following:

  • Road alignment design using software such as (Civil 3D, MX etc)

  • General road design

  • Drainage modelling/design using Windes

  • Preparation of contract documents and pricing documents (to PWC or other similar form)

  • Procurement of ancillary construction contracts (topo/GI/surveys)

  • AUTOCAD and Microsoft office suite of programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Civil Engineering or similar (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc)

  • Safe Pass
