AECOM Roads Engineer in Dublin, Ireland

Job Summary

Our Ireland Roads team are looking to appoint an Engineer with a good grounding in highway engineering design and project management. They should be ready to take the next step in their career taking on responsibility for delivery and co-ordination of projects and design packages on complex road and infrastructure projects. They will have the ability to deal directly with clients and fill a key project co-ordination position within the wider team leading graduate engineers, technicians, and supporting disciplines to deliver successfully.

The role will suit an individual that is aspiring to take a lead role in project delivery and manage dynamic teams delivering high quality projects. The person will need to adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from our Dun Laoghaire office for short duration to suit project needs.

They will have experience of working collaboratively as part of a team developing a range of local, national, and international road schemes or similar major civil engineering projects, and will have been directly responsible for delivering scheme design packages, and co-ordinating input from other disciplines.

  • Perform specific and moderate portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.

  • Gather and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.

  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.

  • Propose approaches to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

  • Identify discrepancies in results.

  • Provide guidance to entry level engineers.

  • Perform work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with little supervision.

  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design elements for engineering works.

The Dublin Roads Team has been in place for over 20 years, the Roads Team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients across the Irish Public Sector, including TII, NTA, and many local authorities throughout Ireland, and major agencies such as DAA. Recent successes have included the delivery of the M7 widening detailed design, supporting the NTA on BusConnects and with the NTA Cycle Design Office, work on local distributor roads for Meath County Council, and progression of major TII Phase 1 to 4 schemes such as the N2 Rath to Kilmoon Cross and the N4 Mullingar to Longford.

The Dublin Roads Team works both locally and across the UK & I market on a mix of urban and rural projects.Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international infrastructure improvements.

At an Ireland level the following are some of the current projects:

  • NTA Cycle Design Office

  • Martin Roundabout Upgrade

  • Junction and cycle improvement schemes across Ireland (Dublin, Wicklow, Galway, Kildare)

  • M7 Naas to Newbridge & Salins Bypass, detailed design & site supervision

  • N69 Foynes to Limerick, Prelim Design and Planning

  • N2 Rath to Kilmoon Cross, Prelim Design

  • Luas Finglas Options Stage

  • Local Distributor Road 4, Abbeyland on behalf of Meath County Council

Minimum Requirements

  • Creating layout/design of at-grade urban junctions (e.g. signalized / unsignalized junctions / roundabouts) taking into account traffic flows, turning movements, storage requirements.

  • Design urban/rural freeway/expressways, grade-separated interchanges, exit and entrance ramps, and familiarity with various types of merges/diverges.

  • Creating & designing urban/rural traffic sign and lane-marking design, including the usage and location of various sign types and sign-plate design, by understanding & using specification of road furniture, such as kerbing, barriers and pedestrian fencing etc.

  • Liaise with the design team & project Manager to produce various tender drawings & tender documents

  • Use terrain modelling and volume calculation from models, especially for road/site formation earthworks and pavement volumes using MX or Geopak, preparation of estimates, and Bill of Quantities preparation for road works.

  • Responsible for preparation of technical specifications for road construction, and conditions of contract.

  • Create road drainage and sub-soil drainage design, preferably using integrated road and drainage design software.

  • Responsible for preparation of technical reports on various road construction, maintenance & rehabilitation in accordance with highway standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A graduate in Civil Engineering or equivalent with experience of Highway Engineering in directly relevant fields. (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc)

  • Ability and willingness for frequent travel to site across Ireland
