Job Summary
Our Transportation Team currently has a vacancy for a Principal Engineer to be based out of our Dublin or Cork office, following several major project wins.
You will be recently Chartered or working to achieve this status and will have proven design and project management experience delivering to quality, time and budget. Additionally, you will have experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team developing designs for multimodal or mode-specific traffic engineering schemes, urban realm and public transport improvements for urban areas.
The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team that works closely with our in-house urban designers to create Complete Streets and enhance people's lives through good design.
Office Overview:
The Dublin office has an established track record of successfully delivering transportation projects throughout Ireland and abroad. The office is located is set up for flexible working which is encouraged and you will be provided with a lap-top and software to help you work around your life requirements.
The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design as well as associated scheme assessment services on a wide range of traffic engineering projects and also supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface. Our Streets Team is involved in several high-profile projects with a variety of clients across the Irish Public Sector, including the NTA, and many local authorities throughout Ireland.

Cycle Design Office for the National Transport Authority
Bus Connects projects for the National Transport Authority
Blessington Greenway for Wicklow County Council
Fitzwilliam Cycle Route (involving the first protected junction design) for Dublin City Council
Urban road and cycle schemes for Kildare, South Dublin and Fingal County Council
Traffic calming schemes in Meath County Council
Public realm schemes for Wicklow County Council
Bus Rapid Transit project in Dubai
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the job/ project accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standards
Receive a project brief and carry out the briefing of the junior team members and lead on analysing data, development of design drawings and report production
Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design
Act as a Project Manager (once accredited) as necessary including monitoring financial performance
Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief
Manage sub-consultants to produce deliverables against agreed timescales and in line with the budget
Attend Project Progress meetings
Prepare detailed client briefs or fee proposals for Manager Approval and contribute to bids
Support team manager in mentoring junior staff
Minimum Requirements
You will have excellent technical and communication skills along with experience of undertaking a range of traffic engineering design projects
You will be able to demonstrate experience of traffic engineering/management design at concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design level
Experience or understanding in the following areas:
Understanding of Health and Safety including PSDP responsibilities
Working on a variety of projects as project manager or task manager leader
Urban street, traffic signal, cycling, walking, road safety, public transport, ITS and parking design
Application and use of Design Manual for Urban Roads and Street, the Traffic Signs Regulations and Traffic Signs Manuals
Proficient user of AutoCAD
Dealing directly with clients
Contributing to bids and proposals
Mentoring junior staff
Preferred Qualifications
BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering or other relevant subjects
You will be a Chartered Engineer or will be working towards an appropriate Professional status with membership of a professional institution over the next 12 months
