Job Summary

AECOM is recruiting for a project Engineer to join our Electricity Transmission & Distribution team based in the AECOM Dublin office. Our Dublin T&D team primarily focuses on the management, design, and supervision of electrical power projects at both transmission and distribution voltages ranging from 1 kV to greater than 500 kV.

The focus of the T&D Dublin team is large-scale grid infrastructure, grid connections, and private wire networks, particularly in projects where renewable energy, resilience, energy efficiency, and carbon reduction can support global efforts to combat climate change.

The position would suit an engineer with 2- 4 years of experience, although we would consider other candidates with an appropriate background and experience profile.

The ideal candidate will have experience in working in High Voltage Transmission and distribution systems, and will most likely have an industrial, renewable generation, or DNO background. In addition to electrical engineering responsibilities, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to develop business development and project management skills. This will involve participating in client engagements, assisting with bids and proposals, and applying AECOM’s safety, environmental, quality and project management systems.

The candidate will have an opportunity to start the training and development required to become an AECOM-certified project manager, with possible career development towards large, multi-disciplinary, infrastructure projects.

You will have:

  • Irish Citizenship or the ability to satisfy Irish residency requirements;

  • Experience of working in teams;

  • Experience of Microsoft Office;

  • Full Irish driving license.

The successful candidate will typically be working on the following:

  • Preliminary designs for High Voltage installations from 110 kV to 400 kV including:

  • Single line diagrams

  • Substation physical Layouts

  • Feasibility studies for new electrical substations or substation upgrades

  • Electrical Designs for planning permission applicationsElements of detailed design, (note - Experience is advantageous, but not necessary as training will be provided) including the following:

  • Cable Ampacity calculations with CYMCAP

  • Earthing design with CDEGS

  • Load flow studies with DIgSILENT

  • Lightning protection studies

  • Busbar forces calculations

  • Site work

  • Review of progress of high voltage installations including substations, cables and overhead lines.

  • Specific Skills Required:

  • Experience working with CDEGS (Earthing Design software)

  • Experience working with CYMCAP (Cable Ampacity calculations)

  • Experience working with DIgSILENT (Network Modelling software)

  • Experience working with overhead line design and installation of same

  • Experience working with the Irish transmission system

  • Experience in a similar field

  • Experience with high voltage design and power systems

  • Experience of working alongside other engineering disciplines within a multi-disciplinary design or project team

  • Proficient in the use of typical office packages such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and other comparable such programs including the desire to utilize the full capabilities of Office365

  • Positive ‘can-do’ attitude, to working with colleagues and clients

  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills in complex and changing environments
