Job Summary
AECOM’s Environmental Business Line is actively seeking an entry-level Environmental Field Technician in the Deepwater, NJ area.
This position offers a unique opportunity to work with, and learn from a great team of Geologists, Scientists, Wetlands Scientists, and Environmental Engineers.
You’ll primarily be performing environmental field sampling duties for a long-term established chemical manufacturing client on site. Your work will also support other clients with a variety of project work throughout the region around our Deepwater, New Jersey office. You’ll apply your mechanical and problem-solving skills operating and maintaining multiple remediation systems and conducting environmental sampling per approved EPA methodology. You’ll document and report on your findings. We will train you on the use of a variety of techniques and tools so that you can be effective in this independent field role. You’ll also learn proper documentation techniques for data collection, field logs, and safety practices.
This is an entry-level position in a large, multi-disciplined environmental department. Candidate will be given the opportunity to cross-train and expand his/her skills on additional project assignments based on performance and educational background.
Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Excellent communication skills are required (written and verbal)
Must have excellent organization skills
Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check
Must pass pre-employment drug screen
Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record
Must be able to pass a medical clearance
Must be able to wear and work with respirator equipment
Be able to obtain 40 Hazwoper upon hire
Work weekends, evenings and overtime as needed
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
Ability to work well with others and comprehend instruction quickly
Ability to work long hours outdoors
Ability to lift equipment/ coolers
Ability to travel up to 50% to various job sites within the region

Physically able, with or without an accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, noise, moisture, dryness, and chemicals; position requires frequent standing/walking, operation of vehicles, climbing stairs, keyboard/mouse operations, repetitive or fine hand movements, and lifting of less than 25 pounds; often performing repetitive bending/stooping, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), and lifting 25-50 pounds; rarely lifting greater than 50 pounds, working with arms above shoulder level, working at heights, using portable ladders, and wearing fall protection.
Position will include wearing associated personal protective equipment, including but not limited to gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, face shield, safety shoes/boots, respirator, and hearing protection
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum of six (6) months of work experience performing entry-level environmental work; work experience may be substituted by higher level education in the environmental area of study
Associates degree preferred
Knowledge of AutoCAD, Access and GIS programs
Proficient in map reading
