Job Description

Lead Traffic Operations Engineer (Civil Engineer III) needed by AECOM Technical Services, Inc. Dallas, TX [and various unanticipated client sites throughout the U.S.] to provide guidance, expertise, training, mentorship, and oversite to junior staff. Coordinate with traffic operations engineering staff. Work closely with operations management, the client, stakeholders, and other team leads for task execution and scheduling. Work closely with junior staff, mentoring staff decision making, career interests, and work ethic. Plan, prioritize, and coordinate daily staff scheduling and task specific scheduling. Oversee and guide the development and administration of training to new staff members, including but not limited to presentations, material, topics, timetables, scheduling, and progress tracking. Support project execution by developing proposal material and preparing task-based scopes of work, seeking client approval, and ensuring high quality tasks are delivered on-time. Lead the development of standards, workshops, and engineering team meetings. Coordinate tasks and communicate with the client on engineering activities, construction coordination, on-site staff’s workload, and vendor training. Verify that service requests are completed in a timely manner and provide quality control and quality assurance on deliverables. Analyze traffic performance and data to determine improvements to operational patterns. Delegate and perform traffic engineering related duties, such as developing signal timings and signal timing documentation, construction coordination, traffic operation reviews, real-time traffic management, congestion mitigation, and incident management. Manage real-time traffic operations during special events, incidents, and construction using ATMS. Review traffic operations using both real-time and historic traffic data to improve the flow of traffic. Develop and review advanced traffic signal timings for daily traffic, special events, school, railroad and fire-station preemption, transit signal/snow plow priority, HAWK signals, and construction. Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams on interdisciplinary projects to develop safety and operational deficiency solutions. Write, develop, and present technical reports, and memorandums. Review, revise traffic operations, and respond to traffic operational complaints. Configure and troubleshoot field equipment to alleviate operational deficiencies. Perform traffic signal warrant analyses, traffic crash data studies, traffic optimization studies, and site inspections to identify operational and safety concern.

Qualifications

Requires a Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering and 2 years of experience in the job offered, or 2 years of experience managing real-time traffic operations during special events, incidents, and construction using ATMS; reviewing traffic operations using both real-time and historic traffic data to improve the flow of traffic; developing and reviewing advanced traffic signal timings for daily traffic, special events, school, railroad and fire-station preemption, transit signal/snow plow priority, HAWK signals, and construction; coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams on interdisciplinary projects to develop safety and operational deficiency solutions; writing, developing, and presenting technical reports, and memorandums; reviewing, revising traffic operations, and responding to traffic operational complaints; configuring and troubleshooting field equipment to alleviate operational deficiencies; and performing traffic signal warrant analyses, traffic crash data studies, traffic optimization studies, and site inspections to identify operational and safety concern.
