AECOM Corporate VP, Assistant General Counsel-Global Project Risk Management in Dallas, Texas
AECOM is seeking a Corporate Vice President & Assistant General Counsel - Global Project Risk Management. This position can be performed on a hybrid remote basis, and we are seeking candidates in Dallas, TX / New York, NY / and Los Angeles, CA.
Reporting to the Chief Corporate Litigation Officer this role will be responsible for:
Active participation on AECOM’s Enterprise Risk Management Committee (ERC), membership of which includes the CEO, President, CLO, CFO and other senior AECOM staff.
Advising the ERC on best ways to minimize risk to the company through independent legal and contact review of highest-risk project opportunities and independent on-going review of highest-risk projects during the delivery phase.
Working with key stakeholders at all levels across the company to ensure that corporate risk management principles, initiatives, and procedures (risk scoring, reviews, analysis, reporting) are in place, current, and implemented.
Participating and/or leading negotiations between the company and its clients and subcontractors on selected matters.
Advising and collaborating with operations and in-house and outside counsel teams on recovery improvement, claim-avoidance, claim assessments, and claim management strategies.
Working closely with AECOM’s operations personnel and in-house counsel in a general legal advisory capacity.

J.D. from an accredited law school.
Admission to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction (admission in a global jurisdictions a plus).
15+ years of legal experience that includes work in a legal and/or risk capacity for a global company in the A/E/C industry and shows a holistic understanding of the business and risk profiles of various projects.
Demonstrable depth and breadth of experience with contracting and legal issues in engineering and construction across all aspects of projects including:
Reviewing Requests for Proposals on large projects, working with project teams on bids, reviewing and negotiating complex contract terms (prime and subs);
Legal support during the delivery phase including advising on application of contract on day-to-day matters, drafting and/or reviewing claims (including variations and delay/disruption/prolongation claims), drafting key correspondence, advising on payment disputes, and managing errors and omissions claims;
Legal support during post-delivery phase including claim assessment and hands on dispute management experience (arbitration and litigation management, drafting and reviewing witness statements, experts reports, leading disclosure exercises);
Working with stakeholders to ensure legal and contractual matters are embedded in project procedures and processes (e.g., compliance, quality, cost management, procurement).
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, proven ability to work in a team-driven, business-centered environment, and the innate intellectual curiosity that enables probative enquiry and holistic assessment of project risk profiles and project performance (payment issues, scope risk, financial exposure, and likelihood of recovery)
Proven track record in partnering with clients, operational teams, and legal teams to achieve results that make business sense.
Advanced analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities, strong attention to detail, and the ability to operate within defined timeframes while juggling multiple assignments.
Proficiency in handling complex legal matters, including rigorous analytical problem-solving skills.
Proven experience in managing outside counsel in a cost-effective manner.
Autonomy, initiative, collaboration and resourcefulness.
Candidate must be available for occasional travel.
Exposure to global mega-projects and high stakes disputes.
Trial and arbitration experience with construction, design and engineering related disputes
