Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Associate Director, Economic Development & Real Estate Advisory to be based in Dallas, Austin, or Houston, Texas. The Economics + Advisory Practice has three core disciplines: Sustainable Economics, Economic Development & Urban Policy, and Real Estate Advisory. The selected candidate will join the Economic Development & Urban Policy team within AECOM’s Economics + Advisory Practice and lead our presence in Texas.

Our team helps clients understand market demand, identify industry sectors and clusters positioned for growth, and clarify economic and demographic disparities, equity concerns. We focus on evaluating the impact of pre-existing structural economic challenges that hold back regional economic performance across sectors such as tourism, green jobs, and advanced manufacturing, while also assessing strategies for Covid recovery across industry, labor force, and real estate.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The Economic Development & Urban Policy team is looking for a market and project leader that can support integrated pursuits, identify opportunities, and develop a team of analysts. With an Americas practice, we are seeking candidates that can learn the nuances of new markets and provide subject matter expertise in a specific focus area.

The successful candidate should be able to lead quantitative and qualitative economic analysis, analyze policies and programs, evaluate industry sectors and clusters, and develop policy solutions in support of economic resilience and recovery projects as well as supporting various types of city planning exercises. Additional day-to-day tasks will require business development activities and the direction of project teams to ensure top quality and timely work products which satisfy clients’ needs.

Our research efforts rely on statistical approaches to align trends across industries and clusters with occupations, factoring in skills, abilities, experience to clarify evolving workforce needs. Our strategies are enabled by a strong focus on implementation, leveraging stakeholder engagement to clarify regional strengths, weaknesses, threats, and opportunities. In context with regional challenges linked to Covid recovery.

The position requires the ability to lead a team while working closely with other disciplines and balancing multiple projects and deadlines, delegating and mentoring staff, and communicating clearly with both clients and other team members.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Urban Planning, Public Policy Analysis, Business, or a related field plus eight (8) years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 12+ years of professional experience at a planning and economics consulting firm, or equivalent professional experience in urban economics, strategy, data science, urban planning, public policy analysis, or related fields

  • Master’s degree from an accredited university in a related field

  • 3+ years in management role at a planning, economic, financial or strategy consulting firm, or equivalent

  • Experience working closely and collaboratively with many disciplines, including all aspects of from urban planning, urban design, and architecture to urban infrastructure practice areas including transportation, water, environment, and energy

  • Experience leading quantitative and qualitative economic analysis related to economic & community development, equity, public health, public finance, and/or resilience

  • Experience presenting and developing content for proposals, interacting with clients, having leadership on multiple parallel projects, presenting professional work at meeting, workshops, and industry conferences

  • Strong technical skills, including experience with one or more of the following software packages:

  • ArcGIS and other spatial analysis tools

  • Quantitative/statistical programs such as STATA, R, Python

  • Economic impact modeling tools such as RIMS II, IMPLAN, REMI
