Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an entry level 3D computer-aided design (CAD) Modeler whose core function will be to generate and maintain 3-dimensional CAD models of U.S. Navy ships and other structures. The position will be located at Dahlgren, VA.

This individual will be a member of the team including mid-level and senior CAD and engineering personnel responsible for providing 3D CAD support to naval topside design efforts. CAD models will be used by Integrated Topside Design (ITD), Total Ship Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (TSE3), and Computational Electromagnetics (CEM) teams to design effective and efficient ship topside features (optimize equipment usage, minimize physical and electronic interference, ensure/enhance maintenance capabilities) and predict/resolve any topside mechanical interference issues.

Autodesk Inventor experience and proficiency is preferred, however experience in Solid Works, or CREO/Pro-E is acceptable. The tasks performed require demonstrated proficiency in 3-D parametric CAD software use and CAD design standards. Duties require interaction in an office environment plus minimal travel to on-site surveys on U.S. Navy ships or other potentially remote sites. The candidate will be responsible for importing existing CAD models into Autodesk Inventor, creating new models in Inventor, and making updates to existing models in Inventor.

The candidate will be expected to interact with ITD personnel to provide visual impacts of locations for antennas and other systems on ships, through updated drawings and model-based views of new and existing locations. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining/developing schedules to meet the needs of ITD team requesting CAD modeling services. Candidate must review and provide input for the management of Navy ship topside design standards, that the candidate will be expected to employee during the development of the 3D CAD models

Minimum Requirements

Either hold or eligible to obtain secret level clearanceAt least one year of experience performing parametric modeling, based on technical drawings or other sources, and using one or more of the following: Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, or CREO/Pro-E with software versions later than 2013. The preferred CAD experience/knowledge set is Autodesk Inventor. Other candidates will be considered based on showing two years of experience in an academic or professional setting of other 3-D parametric CAD modeling.

Vocational/technical training beyond high school and at least 3 years of job-related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three years Autodesk Inventor experience version 2013 or newer

  • Proficient in scripting in Inventor

  • Autodesk Vault client experience in a multi-user, collaborative environment

  • Experience with CAD model assemblies with greater than 100 components

  • Autodesk certified Inventor training

  • MS Power Point, Adobe Photo Shop
