Job Summary

The role involves the design of traffic engineering schemes. The successful applicant can expect to gain experience across our current wide ranging portfolio of projects:

  • Bus Priority schemes;

  • Cycle and walking design projects;

  • Public realm projects;

  • Junction improvement projects

  • Traffic signal and Intelligent Transport Systems;

  • Traffic engineering / management schemes;

  • Traffic signing and wayfinding.

  • Parking, road safety and public transport design;

  • Traffic Regulation Orders and parking,

  • Traffic impact assessments and

  • Site development.

The successful applicant will be supported and mentored by Team Members in developing high quality work.

The role will be based in the St Albans office. Working within either the Preliminary or Detailed Design teams, the individual will be involved in projects across the transportation business line.

SUMMARY OF MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare concept and outline scheme design sketches.

  • Prepare information for statutory undertakers.

  • Prepare drawings at preliminary and detailed design stages and suggest improvements where necessary.

  • Ability to estimate time/resources required to prepare project related drawings.

  • Undertake site visits (may include nights & weekends) and undertake surveys.

  • Work flexibly and contribute effectively to the work and performance of the team

  • Display understanding of budgets and programmes and plan / operate within them.

  • Ability to produce drawings accurately with a high quality of presentation and understand the importance to the company / client relationship.

  • Assist in the development of more efficient work processes

  • Seek on own initiative, gain approval and attend suitable training courses.

  • Apply and use knowledge gained from training to enhance own ability in work environment.

  • Attend courses and show enthusiasm towards CPD.

  • Demonstrate professional standards of integrity & objectivity with colleagues and clients.

  • Support Senior Management of Traffic and Local Roads team.

Minimum Requirements

Experience / skills

  • Some experience in civil engineering, preferably with traffic/transportation-related experience;

  • Good use of computer aided design/drafting software including AutoCAD;

  • Experience in the application of the Design Manual for Urban Roads and Streets (DMURS), the National Cycle Manual, and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB);

  • Experience in 3D Modelling techniques would be an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/Qualifications:

Certificate or Diploma in Civil or Structural Engineering.
