Job Summary
AECOM are currently expanding our Roads Team in Croydon following several major project wins across the UK and Europe. Our Transportation team currently has a vacancy for a Principal Engineer with extensive detailed design and leadership experience.
The team is located in Croydon, one of the fastest-growing areas in London, with excellent transport links to Central London. Our modern office has multi-disciplinary design and planning capability.
The team provides concept, feasibility, preliminary and detailed design as well as associated scheme assessment services on a wide range of traffic engineering projects and also supports other AECOM business lines where their projects have a highway interface. Our Roads team is involved in a number of high profile projects with a variety of clients and also comprises traffic modelling and detailed design expertise.
We are now looking to enhance and grow this team. This role will suit individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to support our expanding workload and clients.

Job Responsibilities:
Leading detailed design projects and taking responsibility for the contribution of junior staff.
Acting as a Technical Lead or Project Manager, including monitoring of financial and team performance.
Ensure technical content and quality of output produced is in line with the project brief.
Liaise and work with contractors and carry out site supervision.
Undertaking Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling Safety-in-Design requirements.
Act as a Principal Designer under CDM 2015 and be responsible for HSE notifications, preparation and review of PCI’s, CPP’s and Health and Safety Files where applicable
Line managing, mentoring and supervising staff in the performance of their duties.
Preparation of fee proposals and major bids.
Minimum Requirements
Experience and proficiency in two or more of the key areas;
project management or asset management
alignment design,
drainage design,
pavement design and refurbishment,
signs and road markings,
safety barrier,
asset inspection,
Management of design and delivery of highway maintenance schemes
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment, operating across a matrix of projects.
Experience of preparing written work
Experience of preparing for and attending meetings with clients and/or statutory consultees.
Experience of working with HA processes (i.e. Project Control Framework) desirable
Experience of working in the D&B arena particularly preparing tenders for contractors.
Full awareness of H&S Legislation and how it is applied to the design process.
Preferred Qualifications
- We would expect a candidate at this level to be an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered (CEng) Engineer.
