AECOM Senior Environmental Scientist in Cork, Ireland

AECOM are looking to recruit a Senior Environmental Consultant/Project Manager to join our established Irish Remediation Services team delivering professional consulting services to clients, primarily consisting of managing desk studies, soil and groundwater site investigations and remediation in relation to contaminated land and remediation projects in Ireland and the UK (including project management, coordination of staff/subcontractors and client liaison).
The Remediation Services team is part of a larger environmental team in Ireland comprising environmental specialists including Geotech, EIA, contaminated land, waste, energy and hydrogeological consultants and we represent the largest contaminated land/ remediation-focused team in Ireland.
In Ireland we work for private sector industrial clients and public sector bodies in terms of brownfield redevelopment, soil waste management, environmental permitting/compliance, and remediation of contaminated sites. We also carry out water resources work and provide environmental due diligence services in relation to property transactions.
Responsibilities will include:
Scoping, preparing, and delivering contaminated land assessment projects
Liaising with AECOM contaminated land assessment teams in the UK&I
Project management and supervision/mentoring of junior staff
Health and Safety management of aspects of site project work.
Developing proposals for ground investigations and remediation projects.
Managing project set up, implementation and finances
Liaising with clients
Coordinating field service subcontractors and laboratory services.
Being familiar with AECOM quality management system and ensure its effective implementation by the team for all projects and proposals
To be successful in the role we're looking for candidates with the following:
Relevant postgraduate qualification and proven post qualified relevant experience in a similar role within environmental industry or environmental consultancy environment
Project management and client-facing experience
Field investigation experience (including drilling, working with subcontractors, collecting groundwater and vapour data/samples)
Self-starting and highly motivated approach to work
Good understanding of contaminated land investigations, data review and risk assessment.
Working knowledge of MS Office applications.
Strong team worker – able to listen to requirements and work well with others.
Attention to detail and a thorough, flexible approach to work.
A quality- and safety-oriented approach
Strong communication skills at all levels (verbal and written).
Project Management skills and experience
Personnel/Subcontractor management experience
Client contact and proposal/tender preparation experience
Full, clean Driving License
Minimum: Degree in Engineering or Science, preferably (but not essentially) Geology, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering.
Preferred: MSc/PhD degree in Geology / Hydrogeology / Contaminated Land / Environmental Engineering / Environmental Science
