Job Summary

AECOM continue to expand their successful and established Development team in Ireland and have a need for a Principal Development Planner / Engineer to join our Regional teams in either Limerick or Cork. The vacancy is for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic individual with experience of development engineering projects.

The AECOM development planning team has an established track record of successfully delivering high profile development schemes and has a multi-disciplinary capability, offering staff the opportunity to work on a wide range of exciting Irish and International projects.

We provide development engineering, traffic and transport planning support to private sector clients from concept through to implementation. Our wide range of clients includes developers, retailers, land owners, house builders, corporate entities, blue chip companies and Universities.

As a Principal Transport Consultant your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead one of our Development Planning teams and will be responsible for line management, project management and business development;

  • Successfully run and manage Development and Transport Planning Projects.

  • Provide high quality advice to clients on transportation matters and identify solutions to their issues.

  • Deliver project work within timescale, budget constraints and quality expectations.

  • Monitoring financial status and progress of projects to ensure delivery on time, to budget and to Client’s satisfaction.

  • Business development and promotion of AECOM’s Services.

  • Working to objectives both financial and technical;

  • Establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams within AECOM’s transportation division.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in delivering innovative cost effective solutions to transport and highways issues relating to development projects. As a Principal Consultant you will lead one of our Development Planning teams (c. 3/4 staff) and will be responsible for line management, project management and business development. You will be proficient in the delivery of development transport projects to the satisfaction of clients and be able to lead a team with minimal supervision.

You will be an excellent communicator and able to work closely with both private and public sector clients as well as multi-disciplinary teams. A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

  • Numerous appraisals, transport assessments and Mobility Plans for mixed-use, retail, commercial and residential development;

  • Highways infrastructure design projects;

  • Travel planning advice for Colleges and Private Developers.

  • Strategic land use appraisals and strategic masterplanning advice for developers, local authorities and government agencies on key strategic development schemes;

  • Retail projects both non-food and food;

  • Feasibility Studies;

  • Car Parking Studies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in successfully managing and delivering Development and Transport Planning Projects;

  • Experience in providing high quality advice directly to clients on transportation matters and identify solutions to their issues;

  • A good all round technical knowledge of all aspects of transport planning for developments from strategic appraisal through to transport assessments and traffic engineering.

  • Preparation of fee proposals and tenders;

  • Deliver project work within timescale, budget constraints and quality expectations.

  • Monitoring financial status and progress of projects to ensure delivery on time, to budget and to Client’s satisfaction.

  • Knowledge of Traffic Modelling packages including Junctions 9 (ARCADY, PICADY), LinSig and VISSIM and TRICS;

  • Excellent knowledge of DMRB and DMURS Design Standards;

  • Experience in liaising and negotiating with Councils Roads Departments;

  • Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to integrate into the existing engineering team.

  • Familiarity with and adherence to Engineers Ireland’s Code of Ethics

  • Ideally a member of a relevant professional body or working towards Chartered Membership;

  • The ability to secure work and develop business with clients;

  • Full Clean driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Graduate in a Transportation Planning or Civil Engineering related subject or equivalent with experience of transport planning in directly related fields;
