We are looking to expand our ecology team in the Republic of Ireland through the recruitment of a Consultant Ecologist.
We work across terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments in a wide range of sectors; Power, Utilities, Development, Government, Manufacturing, Oil and Gas and Transportation. The majority of our work is based in Ireland and the UK, and there may also be international opportunities overseas including Europe, Middle East and Africa. Our ecologists work with architects, engineers, planners, economists and other environmental specialists on important projects providing the full range of ecological services including habitat and species surveys, impact assessment, advice on biodiversity mitigation, offsetting and enhancement, and management planning for biodiversity.
The successful candidate will be expected to be able to work in a self-directed manner, often to tight deadlines. Candidates must have strong ecological survey skills and have proven experience in having carried out a range of protected species surveys, following a variety of methods for species or species groups. They will have excellent field identification skills and be familiar with the ecology of significant plant and animal communities in the Irish context. An ability to work on a range of taxonomic groups will be required.
A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevant Irish and European law and policy is essential.
Proven experience of habitat, and protected species surveys
Past or current holder of a protected species licence(s), such as bats / badger / otter (or exposure to same)
Excellent field skills and a keen interest and understanding of Irish wildlife
Previous work experience in the ecology sector within a professional consultancy (or relevant NGO or academic experience if applicable)
Working knowledge of Irish law relating to ecology and a understanding of the relevant planning systems
Ability to record data efficiently and methodically
Excellent communication and report writing skills with computer skills in MSWord, MS Excel
A hard working and highly motivated individual
Client focused with good interpersonal skills and team approach
Willing and able to visit other locations on company business (if necessary)
Able to demonstrate a commitment to continued education and improvement through participating in our approved training schemes
Full Driving Licence
Experience with a GIS package such as Arc GIS
Membership of or working towards full membership of an appropriate professional institution
Evidence of published work in the ecology field
Undergraduate degree classification 2:1 or equivalent or above
A postgraduate qualification in a relevant subject
