Job Description
Job Summary:
We are looking for an enthusiastic Structural Dam Engineering Project Manager to work as part of a dedicated dams engineering practice in our East Region. We are seeking an experienced engineer to support and grow our dams practice in the core area of structural engineering. This position will support a variety concrete dam engineering projects that involve hydraulic structures and dam design across the East region, nationally and around the world.
Responsibilities:
Providing technical support for projects including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of concrete dams, spillways and appurtenant structures. Includes:
Technical investigations
Conceptual to detailed dam analysis and design for new construction and rehabilitation
Dam construction oversight
Perform detail checks and quality reviews of other Engineer's work.
Communicate with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to dams and other hydraulic structures.
Produce construction documents and specifications.
Prepare technical drawings and visual aids through coordination with CAD team.
Conduct quantity calculations, prepare reports, and create report figures.
Perform assignments designed to develop professional knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and codes.
Responsible for internal quality control technical reviews.
Lead and mentor junior staff.
Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed.
Assist and perform the roles of a Project Manager such as maintaining client relationships, contracting, project planning and execution, financial management, technical management, change management and project team management.
Plan, direct, and supervise small to large scale projects that include 5 or more members, often representing multiple business lines.
Support business development efforts by working directly with clients and subcontractors to build trusted relationships.
Writing proposals and technical approaches as well as preparing project budgets and schedules.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering.
Minimum of 10 years of direct experience working on concrete/masonry dams, spillways, and appurtenant structures.
Relevant experience with concrete dam projects, including rehabilitation and/or new design and construction.
Concrete dam inspection field work experience.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
Experience interacting with clients and managing projects.
Must have the desire and ability to complete the AECOM Project Manager training and certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master of Science degree in Structural Engineering.
Previously approved FERC Independent Consultant (IC) or the ability to receive FERC approval to perform Part 12D Inspections.
Knowledge of seismic analysis for dams involving deterministic and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, utilizing response spectrum and time-history analyses.
Experience performing risk assessments and Potential Failure Mode Analyses (PFMAs) related to concrete dam design, construction and operation.
Strong desire to learn along with professional drive.
Experience in structural analysis of concrete arch dams and curved gravity dams using relevant three-dimensional finite element analysis software programs such as STADD Pro, Ansys and LS-DYNA.
Experience mentoring junior staff and leadership.
