Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an experienced, Senior GIS Specialist for a full-time role in Conshohocken, PA or Pittsburgh, PA. In this role, you will become a part of AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting (EPP) team. This is a hybrid-role that requires 2-3 days per week in the office.

The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment in both in-person and virtual (telework) settings. This position provides unlimited career growth potential while collaborating with a team comprised of a variety of technical staff and project managers in support of AECOM’s clients, including natural gas, electric utilities, renewable energy, and other focus areas.

Your knowledge of GIS, data management, data analytics, and critical thinking skills will be used to support our clients and project teams. The ideal candidate will need to thrive in a challenging environment, be flexible with schedules in order to meet project deadlines, have attention to detail skills, and provide a broad range of mapping skills and quality control (QA/QC) capabilities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but may not limited to, the following :

  • Independently executes and delivers GIS projects of moderate to significant scope and complexity, including geodatabases and similar systems.

  • Develop and maintain databases, reports, and mapping.

  • Create, organize, manipulate, and retrieve GIS data for reporting, analysis, and presentation purposes.

  • Perform quality assurance of GIS data and associated graphic components.

  • Use concepts, practices and procedures to extract and provide GIS data to clients.

  • Work with the EPP team on a variety of utility siting and environmental impact assessment projects, as the GIS technical lead (Lead Verifier).

  • Mentor and train junior GIS staff, resolve technical issues and assist with other staff with troubleshooting.

  • Prepare and maintain internal and external project documentation, including quality control documentation.

  • Coordinate with internal teams such as cultural resources, ecologist, other GIS staff, and other technical experts.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements :

  • BA/BS degree and 6+ years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

  • Relevant experience should include 6+ years of GIS, GIS-related programing/coding, utility siting, or similar

  • Demonstrated experience with ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Portal and/or other relevant ArcGIS software is required

  • Some Python, SQL and/or other coding experience required

  • Valid US motor vehicle license with a driving record in good standing is required

  • Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required

  • This position includes field work that will require working in possible inclement weather conditions, walking/sitting/standing in or on uneven terrain and carrying equipment that may weigh up to 25 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in In GIS, Geography, or a related field is preferred

  • Experience working with electric utility, natural gas, and/or renewable energy clients is helpful

  • Utility siting experience, technical writing capabilities, working knowledge of public utility fling documents and applications, and public outreach roles (i.e. Siting experience).

  • Relevant experience in a multidisciplinary GIS based support role.

  • Staff training or mentoring experience.

  • In-depth technical knowledge of geographic concepts, including coordinate systems, data collection methods, spatial data management, analysis, data visualization and cartographic design.

  • Periodic travel within the region and/or the continental United States, (including over night stays)
