Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a creative and talented Civil Engineer for immediate employment in the Columbus, Ohio office. The appropriately qualified candidate can look forward to involvement in site development projects with exposure to transportation water resources projects. As directed, this position will assist Project Engineers, Project Architects, and Project Managers with project development tasks and be responsible for the preparation of construction drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports.

This position will be part of the Site Design Department within the Division of Buildings and Places. The Site Design Department in Columbus is currently involved with distribution, healthcare, commercial, federal, municipal, higher education, and power located in Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Texas, Oklahoma, and Hawaii.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • The preparation of drawing basemaps utilizing a survey file. This will include the interpretation of the data, development and confirmation of data, and creation of contours and linework.

  • Reviewing utility company record plans and incorporating information into the basemapping

  • The use of AutoCAD Civil 3D to balance earthwork, create alignments and profiles, create cross-sections, and create construction layout coordinates and construction details

  • The preparation of construction drawings for site developments and utilities using AutoCAD Civil 3D

  • The preparation of exhibits, sketches, and other documents utilized for planning and presentation

  • Hydraulic and Hydrologic calculations for sizing storm sewers, stormwater management facilities, and sanitary sewers

  • Participation in project meetings with the Client and Authority Having Jurisdiction

  • Assistance with site and zoning related permitting

  • Entry level project management tasks including recording of meeting minutes, tracking budgets, understanding of scope and fee development, and developing progress/status reports

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

  • 2+ years of experience working on site development and/or water resources or transportation projects, with an emphasis in site layouts, site utilities, site grading, wastewater collection, storm water conveyance and/or water distribution projects

  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D with some exposure to GIS

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered engineer in training or professional engineer (PE) preferred

  • Possess user skills for Word Processing and Spreadsheet programs
