Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Freeway and Signal Operations Engineer Sr. in Colonial Heights, VA. The routine responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Monitor and respond to traffic incidents in real-time. Coordinate with Transportation Operations Center (TOC) in incident management. Modify signal timings based on real time traffic conditions.
Assist in the development and implementation of optimized coordinated signal timing plans on a continual basis (and desirably on a 3–4-year cycle) to aggressively manage the signal system timing and operation to account for periodic changes in traffic flows, traffic signal control, and roadway networks.
Develop and implement optimized signal timings for coordinated signal systems in response to specific planned events, and planned work zone activities that include lane closures and short-term roadway closures.
Develop “canned” optimized signal timings for coordinated signal systems for a variety of diversion scenarios in the anticipation of incidents on freeways and arterials that cause congestion.
Develop and implement timing changes to address anticipated traffic conditions resulting from work zone lane closures and major detours necessitated by temporary road closures. Assist with the management of traffic signals during major work zone activities on freeways and arterials in the NoVA District.
Develop and implement, in real-time, traffic signal timing changes related to congestion-causing incidents. Develop escalation plans that involve multiple signal timing plans for incidents. Provide expanded coverage, beyond the hours cited for minimum operations, during major incidents, both unplanned and planned events.
Monitor signal operations status during major weather and emergency events, and address signal operations issues, and provide signal system status report to management.
Monitor field conditions and collaborate with VDOT Richmond field staff to troubleshoot signal control devices, including detection and controller settings.
Update and build new intersection graphics in KITS, and the detector database to reflect the current condition.
Develop, review, and provide recommendations to signal timing plans, clearance intervals, and pedestrian signal timings.
Support the implementation of the Statewide Central Signal System (CSS) - KITS. The assistance includes all necessary steps as directed by VDOT.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
BA/BS Degree + 8 Years of relevant experience and/or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
Experience with Synchro (Network set-up, Data entry, Data access, Background merge, Time-space diagram interaction, Analysis and optimization, Cycle length selection, simulation and animation, Output interpretation and MOE calculation, Final report preparations.)
Experience with ATSPM
Preferred Experience:
- Signal software (KITS)
