AECOM Sr. Urban Planner in Cleveland, Ohio

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking to hire a Senior Urban Planner to be based in Cleveland or Columbus, Ohio. This position will create an opportunity to work collaboratively with a diverse studio of planners, designers, engineers, and economists from across the region and country.

Job Summary/Responsibilities

  • Serve as a leader for urban planning strategy and innovation at a project or client level with a focus on northeast Ohio, Central Ohio, and southern Michigan. The candidate will work with a collaborative team of planners, designers, engineers, and economists to create and deliver solutions for complex and challenging issues that our region faces.

  • Contributes to the planning, design and delivery of a variety of projects often happening concurrently.

  • Takes ownership of medium to large scale planning efforts under the supervision of the Urbanism & Planning Practice Lead.

  • Works to a program for deliverables and advise and coordinate with a support team.

  • Is committed quality of deliverables meet the expectations of the Client.

  • Works within a multidisciplinary, multicultural team.

  • Undertakes technical co-ordination with other disciplines.

  • Conducts and/or coordinates, organizes and graphically develops client presentations.

  • Acts in a Client representative role with managing, directing and coordinating the deliverables.

  • Manages, coordinates and leads complex projects independently.

  • Coordinates teams to prepare project deliverables and applicable planning authorities’ requirements and coordinates with various disciplines technical input and output into a project.

  • Works with the planning team and is able to manage and negotiate project expectations and deliverables independently.

  • Initiates and drives innovative approaches to efficient project delivery.

  • Has a solid understanding of various scales of planning projects and determine differences and requirements and communicates effectively.

  • Exhibits a strong understanding of planning / environmental governance and policy and can communicate and make recommendations on each where relevant.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in urban planning, regional planning, city planning, or related degree program

  • 8+ years of experience in urban planning, or related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in design related field is preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in urban planning, or related field

  • Ability and passion to work collaboratively across a wide spectrum of disciplines and skill sets to deliver integrated and technically grounded ideas and solutions

  • Proven ability for performing in a lead capacity on projects

  • Thorough knowledge of innovative and resilience-based urban planning practices and procedures

  • 3 or more years of related experience working in planning (or related field) in Ohio or Michigan

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Capable of working on own initiative and as part of a larger multidisciplinary team.
