AECOM Entry Level Geologist/Environmental Scientist in Cleveland, Ohio

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Geologist/Environmental Scientist to be based in Cleveland, OH.

This position is expected to begin in January 2022.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Support environmental due diligence, compliance, and remediation related projects in the field and office.

  • Perform a variety of field work including environmental assessments, which generally include collection of soil, surface water, groundwater, air, and subsurface vapor samples, site inspections, hazardous materials surveys, and subcontractor oversight.

  • Prepare and review technical letters, reports, tables, work plans, and design documents in support of project goals.

  • Review and summarize historical documentation and imagery.

  • Travel regionally and state-wide on short- and long-term assignments.

  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, Environmental Science Hydrogeology, Earth Science with an environmental focus or a related environmental degree from an accredited university.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office software with an ability to prepare memos, spreadsheets, reports, and presentations

  • General knowledge of environmental science principles and local systems

  • General knowledge of state and federal environmental regulatory framework

  • Valid U.S. Driver's License

  • Due to the nature of the work performed, U.S. citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science Degree in Geology, Environmental Science Hydrogeology, Earth Science with an environmental focus or a related environmental degree from an accredited university.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in environmental and scientific/engineering related industry

  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations such as ASTM-1527-13, AAI, Ohio VAP, RCRA, BUSTR, TSCA, and SARA

  • Ability to write and to convey complex thoughts and ideas in a clear, concise manner

  • Candidate is expected to possess solid technical and problem-solving skills and must be willing to accept occasional short- and long-term field assignments

  • Excellent communication skills, including both oral and written (writing sample requested)

  • 40-hour HAZWOPER health and safety training certificate or an up to date 8-hr annual refresher course certification is preferred. Candidates without current certification or without prior 40-hr training will be required to attend (and receive certification) immediately upon hire.

  • Asbestos Hazard Evaluation Specialist certification and an Asbestos Hazard Abatement Specialist certification are preferred. Candidates without current certifications may be required to obtain both certifications upon hire.

  • Lead Risk Assessor certification is preferred. Candidates without current certification may be required to obtain certification upon hire.
