AECOM Project Environmental Scientist in Chicago, Illinois

Job Summary

AECOM has an opening for an Environmental Scientist in our Chicago, IL office. Our Chicago office offers a variety of environmental assessment, investigation, and survey services to Federal, State, and local government agencies; Fortune 500 corporations; and many manufacturing and commercial clients. We are looking for an individual with a broad range of environmental field experience and specific experience completing environmental field visits and reporting for Storm water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, and Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessments (ESA). Candidate should be interested in managing and executing SWPPP, SPCC, and Phase 1 ESA projects. Candidates will also have the opportunity to participate and manage other projects including Site Investigation and Remediation projects.

Specific duties and responsibilities of this position include:

  • Project/task management support and coordination of field work including correspondence with subcontractors and vendors.

  • Development of site specific SHE Safety Plans.

  • Data reduction, review, and interpretation.

  • Report and Plan writing for site investigation, groundwater monitoring, remediation, and compliance projects.

  • Interaction with the public and/or clients as a representative of AECOM.

  • Client invoicing and budget-setting.

  • Periodic field work, including:

  • Site inspections for development of and compliance with Stormwater Pollution Prevention and Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plans

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Site Investigations

  • Sampling of various media including soil, groundwater, surface water and soil gas.

  • Installation of groundwater monitoring wells (including lithologic characterization and soils classifications) and vapor monitoring points.

  • Oversight of subcontractors performing various construction or remediation tasks.

DCSA—Environment

With world class technical expertise, leading edge technology and innovative project delivery capability around the world, AECOM’s global environmental practice helps industry and government meet their business goals – to achieve compliance, reduce or eliminate risks and manage impacts. We provide advisory and technical services to help clients cleanup and close contaminated sites and surplus operational facilities and restore them for reuse, plan and permit new facilities, address critical climate change issues, restore habitats and water quality, protect natural and cultural resources, maintain compliance, and cost effectively manage residuals and wastes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Planning, Engineering or equivalent and 6 years of relevant experience and or equivalent of experience and or education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated project or task management experience.

  • High degree of self-motivation and the ability to work independently with limited supervision, as well as in a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments.

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully engage with diverse teams and successfully manage/deliver project scope, schedule and budget.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective client presentations and written report preparation, and demonstrated ability to complete and coordinate the preparation of high quality work products in a team environment.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and annual updates.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, GIS, or Microsoft Access or SQL is a plus.
