Job Summary
We have vacancies for talented Highways Engineers to join our Midlands design team based in Chesterfield.
The AECOM highways team is highly successful and our workload is growing providing opportunities to be involved in a number of major highways schemes. We are currently delivering major highways projects for high profile clients across the UK. To help us to achieve our ambition we are expanding our team and are seeking individuals who have a sound technical background and share our enthusiasm and determination to deliver successful projects.
As a Highways Engineer, you will be a self-motivated individual with proven design experience and be able to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team. You will need to adopt a flexible approach and be able to work away from Chesterfield for short duration to suit project needs. The role will suit experienced graduates looking to take the next step to progress their career.
Job Responsibilities:
Work under the direction of Principal / Senior Engineers to perform tasks in accordance with agreed budget and schedule with little supervision, possessing the ability to solve any problems encountered
Undertake highway design across a range of specialisms in the field of highway engineering accordance with UK standards and best practice including DMRB and MCHW
Construct project information models in a Common Data Environment
Undertake project activities in line with company policy, including technical and commercial aspects.
Take an assistant role on projects
Provide guidance to junior engineers and apprentices
Contribute to technical excellence and innovation including personal, professional development Plan, lead and undertake site visits as required.
Plan and attend meetings – internal and external.
Liaise with sub-consultants and external parties.
Be proactive and contribute to a safer work environment including understanding the CDM duties of a designer and preparing designer’s risk assessments
Minimum Requirements
For this role, we are seeking experienced individuals with the following attributes:
Degree in Civil Engineering or a related subject
Previous post-graduation experience in highway design
Demonstrable understanding of Health and Safety including CDM
Knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges
Willing to undertake occasional periods of secondment to construction sites
Competent in the use of MS Office software
Ability to travel to areas of the region as needed to meet business requirements
Preferred Qualifications
Working towards Incorporated/Chartered Engineer status of respective professional institution
Proficient in the use of 3d Civils / OpenRoads or WinDes
CSCS card holder
Professionally qualified or working towards the professional qualification
Site supervision experience would be an advantage;
Experience of 3d design modelling
Experience of Bentley OpenRoads / WinDes and ProjectWise would be an advantage
