AECOM Design Build Mechanical Engineer in Chelmsford, Massachusetts

Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a motivated project engineer to join our growing Water Design Build team in Chelmsford, MA. This position will be part of an exciting team employing the latest technologies to solve critical water supply, treatment, and infrastructure projects such as water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations, and conveyance systems throughout the United States and Canada.

This is an opportunity to work on some of our nation’s most pressing water infrastructure problems and contributing to AECOM’s success as an industry leader in engineering and construction. Working as part of a multi-discipline project team in our Water Design Build group you will be involved in all phases of a project from conceptual design, detailed design, through construction and startup.

Working as part of a multi-discipline project team in our Water Design Build group you will be involved in all phases of a project from conceptual design, detailed design, through construction and startup.

During the design phase the successful candidate will:

  • Learn and employ the latest technology and software for hydraulic design and modeling

  • Participate in the design of mechanical pumping and equipment systems

  • Design unit operations for liquid and solid stream treatment

  • Perform process and building layouts using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit

  • Prepare technical specifications for mechanical equipment selection and procurement

  • Perform process modelling of water and wastewater treatment systems

During the construction phase the role will include:

  • Interfacing with our construction partners to coordinate design and construction submittals, RFIs, change orders and other construction documents

  • Site visits and inspections

  • Startup and testing of equipment and systems that you will help design!

  • This role provides an excellent opportunity to work with diverse project teams, travel to various project locations and attend industry conferences and meetings. Joining our Design Build team will also provide you with the opportunity to enhance your career by expanding your knowledge and experience across multiple disciplines, participating in the construction and startup of the work you design, and increasing your exposure to technical and business leaders across multiple regions and geographies within AECOM.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree OR Associate's degree and 2 years of related experience OR High School diploma or GED and 4 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering

  • EIT/FE or ability to get within 1 year of employment

  • Background or interest in fluid mechanics, hydraulics and hydraulic modelling software

  • Experience or coursework in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit

  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems and method

  • Self-starter and ability to take initiative
